Salmonella enteritidis ciprofloxacin resistance effect on transcription in LB

ABSTRACT: comparison of total RNA profiles obtained from ciprofloxacin resistant colonies of two separate Enteritidis isolates with their respective wt parents total RNA of both wt (with reduced cip sensitivity at MIC=0.2 ug/ml) and spontaneous cipR mutants (MIC>32ug/ml) in LB log phase was harvested from Enteritidis strain 104 (from poultry host) and Enteritidis 5408 (from human host), and compared on a PCR product array

The fitness costs associated with high-level fluoroquinolone resistance were examined for phenotypically and genotypically characterized ciprofloxacin-resistant Salmonella enterica serotype Enteritidis mutants (104-cip and 5408-cip; MIC, >32 microg/ml). The stability of the fluoroquinolone resistance phenotype in both mutants was investigated to assess whether clones with better fitness could emerge in the absence of antibiotic selective pressure. Mutants 104-cip and 5408-cip displayed altered m  ...[more]
