Global expression profiling of ruptured and unruptured human intracranial aneurysms

ABSTRACT: The primary aim of the present study was to identify differences on the transcription level between ruptured and unruptured intracranial aneurysms as well as normal intracranial arteries in human. Keywords: Expression profiling by array Global gene expression profiling was performed in human intracranial aneurysms both ruptured (n=8) and unruptured (n=6) as well as in control intracranial arteries (middle meningeal artery, MMA; n=5) using oligonucleotide microarrays.

ORGANISM(S): Homo sapiens

Background and purpose
Mechanisms underlying development and rupture of intracranial aneurysms (IA) are poorly recognized. The majority of studies on human tissue have focused on predefined pathways. We sought to analyze global gene expression patterns of ruptured IA, unruptured IA, and control vessels.
Methods
Transcription profiles were studied in human ruptured (n=8) and unruptured (n=6) IA, as well as in control intracranial arteries (n=5), using oligonucleotide microarrays.
