Expression analysis of laser cut germaria vs laser cut apex of testes

ABSTRACT: Here we used laser cutting microdissection and RNA amplification to profile the gene expression in wildtype female germaria and male apex of the testes. These tissue contain germline stem cells and early dividing germ cells. Our goal was to identify genes expressed in these cell types. A direct microarray design of laser cut germaria vs laser cut apex of testes. Four biological replicates are included with two dye-swaps.

Background
Germline stem cells (GSCs) are present in the gonads of Drosophila females and males, and their proper maintenance, as well as their correct differentiation, is essential for fertility and fecundity. The molecular characterization of factors involved in maintenance and differentiation is a major goal both in Drosophila and stem cell research. While genetic studies have identified many of these key factors, the use of genome-wide expression studies holds the potential to greatl ...[more]
