Transcription profiling of rat aorta samples from rats undergoing voluntary exercise

ABSTRACT: Effects of voluntary exercise in rat aorta. Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) performed 5 weeks of voluntary exercise (wheel-cage running). Aortic tissue was collected and samples were pooled (3 aortae/chip). Aortae from running rats were compared to aortae from non-running rats.

ORGANISM(S): Rattus norvegicus

Physical exercise is considered to be beneficial for cardiovascular health. Nevertheless, the underlying specific molecular mechanisms still remain unexplored. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of voluntary exercise on vascular mechanical properties and gene regulation patterns in spontaneously hypertensive rats. By using ultrasound biomicroscopy in an ex vivo perfusion chamber, we studied the distensibility of the thoracic aorta. Furthermore, exercise-induced gene regulation wa  ...[more]
