Transcription profiling of male and female embryo chicken brain, time series

ABSTRACT: The differnece in genexpression between male and female embryo chicken brain. The aim of the study was to look at the diffirence in genexpression between chicken male and female at 4 different stages. For each day 4 arrays were conducted. Ed4,6, 8 and 10. For ed 10 the experiment was both conducted on idividulas (4 arrays)and on pools of individuals (4 arrays).

ORGANISM(S): Gallus gallus

Background
Differentiation of the brain during development leads to sexually dimorphic adult reproductive behavior and other neural sex dimorphisms. Genetic mechanisms independent of steroid hormones produced by the gonads have recently been suggested to partly explain these dimorphisms.
Results
Using cDNA microarrays and real-time PCR we found gene expression differences between the male and female embryonic brain (or whole head) that may be independent of morphological different ...[more]
