ABSTRACT: This study focuses on creating a crater-matching algorithm to improve the matching rate and address the phenomenon of insufficient feature extraction and mismatching of irregular celestial objects and crater edge information on the dim surface of celestial bodies images. These images were captured by the detector's navigation camera. In order to improve the brightness and clarity of the images, the target images were filtered, denoised, and image-enhanced using the bilateral filtering method and improved histogram equalization algorithm, successively. Then, the enhanced image was extracted and matched using the ORB feature point detection algorithm based on scale invariance, and the feature point mismatch was processed by the Hamming distance screening method. The simulation results revealed that the optimization algorithm effectively improved the imaging quality of the target image in dark and weak light environments, increased the number of feature points extracted, reduced the mismatch of effective feature point pairs, and improved the matching rate.

Project description:BackgroundStatistics show that each year more than 100,000 patients pass away from brain tumors. Due to the diverse morphology, hazy boundaries, or unbalanced categories of medical data lesions, segmentation prediction of brain tumors has significant challenges.PurposeIn this thesis, we highlight EAV-UNet, a system designed to accurately detect lesion regions. Optimizing feature extraction, utilizing automatic segmentation techniques to detect anomalous regions, and strengthening the structure. We prioritize the segmentation problem of lesion regions, especially in cases where the margins of the tumor are more hazy.MethodsThe VGG-19 network structure is incorporated into the coding stage of the U-Net, resulting in a deeper network structure, and an attention mechanism module is introduced to augment the feature information. Additionally, an edge detection module is added to the encoder to extract edge information in the image, which is then passed to the decoder to aid in reconstructing the original image. Our method uses the VGG-19 in place of the U-Net encoder. To strengthen feature details, we integrate a CBAM (Channel and Spatial Attention Mechanism) module into the decoder to enhance it. To extract vital edge details from the data, we incorporate an edge recognition section into the encoder.ResultsAll evaluation metrics show major improvements with our recommended EAV-UNet technique, which is based on a thorough analysis of experimental data. Specifically, for low contrast and blurry lesion edge images, the EAV-Unet method consistently produces forecasts that are very similar to the initial images. This technique reduced the Hausdorff distance to 1.82, achieved an F1 score of 96.1%, and attained a precision of 93.2% on Dataset 1. It obtained an F1 score of 76.8%, a Precision of 85.3%, and a Hausdorff distance reduction to 1.31 on Dataset 2. Dataset 3 displayed a Hausdorff distance cut in 2.30, an F1 score of 86.9%, and Precision of 95.3%.ConclusionsWe conducted extensive segmentation experiments using various datasets related to brain tumors. We refined the network architecture by employing smaller convolutional kernels in our strategy. To further improve segmentation accuracy, we integrated attention modules and an edge enhancement module to reinforce edge information and boost attention scores.

Project description:BackgroundCellular components are controlled by genetic and physiological factors that define their shape and size. However, quantitively capturing the morphological characteristics and movement of cellular organelles from micrograph images is challenging, because the analysis deals with complexities of images that frequently lead to inaccuracy in the estimation of the features. Here we show a unique quantitative method to overcome biases and inaccuracy of biological samples from confocal micrographs.ResultsWe generated 2D images of cell walls and spindle-shaped cellular organelles, namely ER bodies, with a maximum contrast projection of 3D confocal fluorescent microscope images. The projected images were further processed and segmented by adaptive thresholding of the fluorescent levels in the cell walls. Micrographs are composed of pixels, which have information on position and intensity. From the pixel information we calculated three types of features (spatial, intensity and Haralick) in ER bodies corresponding to segmented cells. The spatial features include basic information on shape, e.g., surface area and perimeter. The intensity features include information on mean, standard deviation and quantile of fluorescence intensities within an ER body. Haralick features describe the texture features, which can be calculated mathematically from the interrelationship between the pixel information. Together these parameters were subjected to multivariate analysis to estimate the morphological diversity. Additionally, we calculated the displacement of the ER bodies using the positional information in time-lapse images. We captured similar morphological diversity and movement within ER body phenotypes in several microscopy experiments performed in different settings and scanned under different objectives. We then described differences in morphology and movement of ER bodies between A. thaliana wild type and mutants deficient in ER body-related genes.ConclusionsThe findings unexpectedly revealed multiple genetic factors that are involved in the shape and size of ER bodies in A. thaliana. This is the first report showing morphological characteristics in addition to the movement of cellular components and it quantitatively summarises plant phenotypic differences even in plants that show similar cellular components. The estimation of morphological diversity was independent of the cell staining method and the objective lens used in the microscopy. Hence, our study enables a robust estimation of plant phenotypes by recognizing small differences in complex cell organelle shapes and their movement, which is beneficial in a comprehensive analysis of the molecular mechanism for cell organelle formation that is independent of technical variations.
