Neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation contributes to immune defense and is a distinct form of cell death. Excessive NET formation is found in patients with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated (ANCA-associated) vasculitis (AAV), contributing to disease progression.
