The complete mitogenome of Anaplectoides virens (Butler, 1878) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and phylogenetic analysis.

ABSTRACT: Anaplectoides virens (Noctuoidea: Noctuidae) is a polyphagous herbivorous moth, which feeds on a wide variety of crops. Molecular phylogenetic studies of this species are still limited. We presented the first complete mitochondrial genome of the genus Anaplectoides, which was assembled from data generated using a genome skimming method. The assembled mitogenome is 15,358 bp in length and consists of 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and a control region. Except for the start codon of cox1 with CGA, other coding genes use ATN as the start codon. Most PCGs use TAA as the stop codon; however, cox1, cox2, and nad4 use T as the termination codon. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the genera of ((Agrotis + Striacosta) + Anaplectoides) within Noctuinae formed a monophyletic group. Among Noctuidae, the relationship of ((Noctuinae + Hadninae) + Amphipyrinae) was also highly supported.

Characterisation and phylogenetic analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of Ctenoplusia albostriata (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae: Plusiinae).

Project description:Ctenoplusia albostriata is a pest of composite plants such as Calendula officinalis L. and Dahlia pinnata. In this study, we sequenced and analyzed the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of C. albostriata. This mitogenome was 15,284 bp long and encoded 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), and 2 ribosomal RNA unit genes (rRNAs). Gene order was conserved and was found to be identical to most other previously sequenced Noctuidae. The whole mitogenome exhibited heavy AT nucleotide bias (80.9%). Except for cox1 started with CGA, all other PCGs started with the standard ATN codons. Most of the PCGs terminated with the stop codon TAA, whereas cox1, cox2 and nad4 end with the incomplete codon T--. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the mitogenome of C. albostriata was similar to C. agnata and C. limbirena, and the subfamily Plusiinae was close to Acronictinae, Heliothinae, Amphipyrinae, Noctuinae, and Hadeninae.

The complete mitogenome of Curculiochinensis (Chevrolat, 1878) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Curculioninae).

Project description:The mitogenome of Curculiochinensis (Chevrolat, 1878) was sequenced and annotated to better identify C.chinensis and related species. The mitogenome is 18,680 bp in length, includes the 37 typical mitochondrial genes (13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes and 22 transfer RNA genes) and two control regions (total length: 3,879 bp). Mitogenome organisation, nucleotide composition and codon usage are similar to the previously sequenced Curculio mitogenomes. All 13 protein-coding genes use ATN or TTG as start codon and end with TAA/G or incomplete stop codons (single T-). Twenty-one transfer RNA genes have the typical clover-leaf structure, while the dihydrouridine (DHU) arm of trnS1 is missing. In Curculio mitogenomes, the size of the control region is highly variable. Both ML and BI analyses, based on the 13 PCGs and two rRNAs from six species of Curculioninae, strongly supported the monophyly of Curculio. In Curculio, the relationships amongst included species were inferred as ((C.chinensis + Curculio. sp.) + (Curculiodavidi + Curculioelephas)), with C.chinensis and C. sp. forming a clade (BS = 100; PP = 1).

Project description:Paranticopsis xenocles Doubleday belongs to the Paranticopsis of Papilionidae and is mainly distributed in China mainland. Herein, we report the complete mitogenome of P. xenocles reconstructing from Illumina sequence data. The mitogenome is 15,187 bp in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 2 ribosomal RNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that P. xenocles were clustered within Paranticopsis. This study would provide useful genetic information for future studies on taxonomy, phylogeny, and evolution of Papilionidae species.

The Nothoaspis amazoniensis Complete Mitogenome: A Comparative and Phylogenetic Analysis.

Project description:The molecular biology era, together with morphology, molecular phylogenetics, bioinformatics, and high-throughput sequencing technologies, improved the taxonomic identification of Argasidae family members, especially when considering specimens at different development stages, which remains a great difficulty for acarologists. These tools could provide important data and insights on the history and evolutionary relationships of argasids. To better understand these relationships, we sequenced and assembled the first complete mitochondrial genome of Nothoaspis amazoniensis. We used phylogenomics to identify the evolutionary history of this species of tick, comparing the data obtained with 26 complete mitochondrial sequences available in biological databases. The results demonstrated the absence of genetic rearrangements, high similarity and identity, and a close organizational link between the mitogenomes of N. amazoniensis and other argasids analyzed. In addition, the mitogenome had a monophyletic cladistic taxonomic arrangement, encompassed by representatives of the Afrotropical and Neotropical regions, with specific parasitism in bats, which may be indicative of an evolutionary process of cospeciation between vectors and the host.
