Root-knot nematodes (RKNs, <i>Meloidogyne</i> spp.) can cause severe yield losses in tomatoes. The <i>Mi-1.2</i> gene in tomato confers resistance to the <i>Meloidogyne</i> species <i>M. incognita</i>, <i>M. arenaria</i> and <i>M. javanica</i>, which are prevalent in tomato growing areas.
