Aerial images and water quality dataset for fishpond's condition monitoring.

ABSTRACT: This dataset is part of fundamental research to produce IoT monitoring in fishponds. The data consists of the results of measurements of pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), and water temperature obtained through manual sensor devices in several locations at different times. Additionally, this data also includes images taken by drones at consistent heights. These images are linked to the sensor data that has been collected. In this research, data will be used to monitor the health of fishponds through visual data. This data can be used for correlation analysis between visual data and sensor data. The hypothesis is the visual appearance of the pond (the colour) is affected by the number of mixed solid (mud and other organic material) in the water, which reflected in the TDS level of the water. In addition, the data can also be used for initial investigations into the development of machine learning models for pool condition recognition through image analysis.

AerialWaste dataset for landfill discovery in aerial and satellite images.

Project description:Illegal landfills are sites where garbage is dumped violating waste management laws. Aerial images enable the use of photo interpretation for territory scanning and landfill detection but this practice is hindered by the manual nature of this task which also requires expert knowledge. Deep Learning methods can help capture the analysts' expertise and build automated landfill discovery tools. However, this goal requires public high-quality datasets for model training and testing. At present no such datasets exist and this gap penalizes the research toward scalable and accurate landfill discovery methods. We present a dataset for landfill detection featuring airborne, WorldView-3, and GoogleEarth images annotated by professional photo interpreters. It comprises 3,478 positive and 6,956 negative examples. Most positive instances are characterized by metadata: the type of waste, its storage mode, the type of the site, and the evidence and severity of the illicit. The dataset has been technically validated by building an accurate landfill detector and is accompanied by a visualization and annotation tool.

A crowdsourced dataset of aerial images with annotated solar photovoltaic arrays and installation metadata.

Project description:Photovoltaic (PV) energy generation plays a crucial role in the energy transition. Small-scale, rooftop PV installations are deployed at an unprecedented pace, and their safe integration into the grid requires up-to-date, high-quality information. Overhead imagery is increasingly being used to improve the knowledge of rooftop PV installations with machine learning models capable of automatically mapping these installations. However, these models cannot be reliably transferred from one region or imagery source to another without incurring a decrease in accuracy. To address this issue, known as distribution shift, and foster the development of PV array mapping pipelines, we propose a dataset containing aerial images, segmentation masks, and installation metadata (i.e., technical characteristics). We provide installation metadata for more than 28000 installations. We supply ground truth segmentation masks for 13000 installations, including 7000 with annotations for two different image providers. Finally, we provide installation metadata that matches the annotation for more than 8000 installations. Dataset applications include end-to-end PV registry construction, robust PV installations mapping, and analysis of crowdsourced datasets.

An internet of things labelled dataset for aquaponics fish pond water quality monitoring system.

Project description:Aquaculture, which is the breeding of fishes in artificial ponds, seems to be gaining popularity among urban and sub-urban dwellers in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Tenant aquaculture enables individuals irrespective of their profession to grow fishes locally in a little space. However, there are challenges facing aquaculture such as the availability of water, how to monitor and manage water quality, and more seriously, the problem of absence of dataset with which the farmer can use as a guide for fish breeding. Aquaponics is a system that combines conventional aquaculture with hydroponics (the method of growing plants in water i.e. soilless farming of crops). It uses these two technologies in a symbiotic combination in which the plant uses the waste from the fish as food while at the same time filtering the water for immediate re-use by the fish. This helps to solve the problem of frequent change of water. An Internet of Things (IoT) system consisting of an ESP-32 microcontroller which controls water quality sensors in aquaponics fish ponds was designed and developed for automatic data collection. The sensors include temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, ammonia and nitrate sensors. The IoT system reads water quality data and uploads the same to the cloud in real time. The dataset is visualized in the cloud and downloaded for the purposes of data analytics and decision-making. We present the dataset in this paper. The dataset will be very useful to the agriculture, aquaculture, data science and machine learning communities. The insights such dataset will provide when subjected to machine learning and data analytics will be very useful to fish farmers, informing them when to change the pond water, what stocking density to apply, provide knowledge about feed conversion ratios, and in predict the growth rate and patterns of their fishes.

Dataset for a wireless sensor network based drinking-water quality monitoring and notification system.

Project description:This paper presents the collected experimental data for water quality monitoring which was conducted in ten experiments by using five different common sources of water contaminants namely soil, salt, washing powder, chlorine and vinegar and their combination. The data were collected indoors at room temperature during the day for several days using sensors that measure pH, turbidity, flow rate, and conductivity in water. The water consumption risk (CR) was calculated as deviation based on the water quality parameters standards proposed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the South African Department of Water Affairs (DWA), with respect to the sensor measurement readings obtained. While the error measurements were calculated based on the expected parameter measurement per conducted experiment and repeated for 26 measurements. Pure tap water was the benchmark of water safe for human consumption. The first five experiments were performed by introducing each contaminant into the water and thereafter, two contaminants in the sixth experiment and their additions until all different contaminants were experimented at once in the last experiment.

Dataset on water quality monitoring from a wireless sensor network in a river in Kosovo.

Project description:This dataset was collected as part of the InWaterSense project with a wireless sensor network (WSN) installed in a site in river Sitnica in Kosovo, as a case study for monitoring remotely, continuously and in real-time the surface water quality in Kosovo and how it can be extended to all surface waters in the country for quality assurance. Values of four water quality parameters are provided in the dataset, i.e., temperature, electrical conductivity, pH, and dissolved oxygen measured by respective static sensors of WSN in the time frame between May 2015 to beginning of January 2016 and every 10 min, counting to slightly over 100k measurement records in total. The dataset is hosted at the Mendeley Data repository (Ahmedi and Ahmedi 2021), and is related to the research article entitled "InWaterSense: An Intelligent Wireless Sensor Network for Monitoring Surface Water Quality to a River in Kosovo" (Ahmedi et al., 2018). The reuse potential of the dataset to the scientific community is widespread, from environmental engineering to artificial intelligence to the health sector just to mention few. Moreover, practitioners might benefit from this dataset in driving forth the pollution prevention policies and techniques. Data were acquired measuring water quality using static sensors installed as part of a wireless sensor network in Sitnica river in the Plemetin village near Prishtina, then transmitted to the gateway device also in Plemetin via the ZigBee protocol, and finally transmitted remotely via GPRS to the server machine in the premises of the University of Prishtina. The data received from sensors are in real-time stored in the MS SQL server.

Dataset of thermal and visible aerial images for multi-modal and multi-spectral image registration and fusion.

Project description:This article presents a dataset of thermal and visible aerial images of the same flat scene at Melendez campus of Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia. The images were acquired using an UAV equipped with either a thermal or a visible camera. The dataset is useful for testing techniques for the improvement, registration and fusion of multi-modal and multi-spectral images. The dataset consists of 30 visible images and their metadata, 80 thermal images and their metadata, and a visible georeferenced orthoimage. The metadata related to every image contains the WGS84 coordinates for allocating the images. Also, the homography matrices between every image and the orthoimage are included in the dataset. The images and homographies are compatible with the well-known assessment protocol for detection and description proposed by Mikolajczyk and Schmid [1].

VegNet: Dataset of vegetable quality images for machine learning applications.

Project description:The agricultural industry has an unmet requirement for quick and accurate classification or recognition of vegetables according to the quality criteria. This open research problem draws attention to the research scholars every time. The classification and object detection challenges have seen highly encouraging outcomes from machine learning and deep learning techniques. The foundational condition for developing precise and reliable machine learning models for the real-time context is a neat and clean dataset. With this goal in mind, we have developed a picture dataset of four popular vegetables in India that are also highly exported worldwide. In order to generate a dataset, we have taken into account four vegetables: Bell Peppers, Tomatoes, Chili Peppers, and New Mexico Chiles. The dataset is divided into four vegetable folders, including Bell Pepper, Tomato, Chili Pepper, and New Mexico Chile. Further each vegetable folder contains five subfolders namely (1) Unripe, (2) Ripe, (3) Old, and (4) Dried (5) Damaged. The image collection includes a total of 6850 pictures of vegetables in dataset. We firmly feel that the provided dataset is very beneficial for developing, evaluating, and validating a machine learning model for vegetable categorization or reorganization.

To avoid exposure to countless diseases, it is imperative to separate stagnant water from clean water. Thus the main objective of the proposed paper is to create an image dataset of stagnant water and wet surface to detect stagnant water. Accordingly, we considered stagnant water images in different forms and sizes to construct the dataset. In addition to that, brown and black earth surface is considered for the wet surface detection. The dataset consists of 1976 labeled images captured from various angles with annotated files. The dataset images are labelled for two classes, namely water and wet surface. This dataset is highly useful for deep learning experts working in the field of disease control management and post-rainfall earth surface monitoring.

Chesapeake Bay's water quality condition has been recovering: Insights from a multimetric indicator assessment of thirty years of tidal monitoring data.

Project description:To protect the aquatic living resources of Chesapeake Bay, the Chesapeake Bay Program partnership has developed guidance for state water quality standards, which include ambient water quality criteria to protect designated uses (DUs), and associated assessment procedures for dissolved oxygen (DO), water clarity/underwater bay grasses, and chlorophyll-a. For measuring progress toward meeting the respective states' water quality standards, a multimetric attainment indicator approach was developed to estimate combined standards attainment. We applied this approach to three decades of monitoring data of DO, water clarity/underwater bay grasses, and chlorophyll-a data on annually updated moving 3-year periods to track the progress in all 92 management segments of tidal waters in Chesapeake Bay. In 2014-2016, 40% of tidal water segment-DU-criterion combinations in the Bay (n = 291) are estimated to meet thresholds for attainment of their water quality criteria. This index score marks the best 3-year status in the entire record. Since 1985-1987, the indicator has followed a nonlinear trajectory, consistent with impacts from extreme weather events and subsequent recoveries. Over the period of record (1985-2016), the indicator exhibited a positive and statistically significant trend (p < 0.05), indicating that the Bay has been recovering since 1985. Patterns of attainment of individual DUs are variable, but improvements in open water DO, deep channel DO, and water clarity/submerged aquatic vegetation have combined to drive the improvement in the Baywide indicator in 2014-2016 relative to its long-term median. Finally, the improvement in estimated Baywide attainment was statistically linked to the decline of total nitrogen, indicating responsiveness of attainment status to the reduction of nutrient load through various management actions since at least the 1980s.
