Project description:With the evolution of technology associated with mobility and autonomy, Shared Autonomous Vehicles will be a reality. To ensure passenger safety, there is a need to create a monitoring system inside the vehicle capable of recognizing human actions. We introduce two datasets to train human action recognition inside the vehicle, focusing on violence detection. The InCar dataset tackles violent actions for in-car background which give us more realistic data. The InVicon dataset although doesn't have the realistic background as the InCar dataset can provide skeleton (3D body joints) data. This datasets were recorded with RGB, Depth, Thermal, Event-based, and Skeleton data. The resulting dataset contains 6 400 video samples and more than 3 million frames, collected from sixteen distinct subjects. The dataset contains 58 action classes, including violent and neutral (i.e., non-violent) activities.

Project description:BackgroundLigand-based in silico target fishing can be used to identify the potential interacting target of bioactive ligands, which is useful for understanding the polypharmacology and safety profile of existing drugs. The underlying principle of the approach is that known bioactive ligands can be used as reference to predict the targets for a new compound.ResultsWe tested a pipeline enabling large-scale target fishing and drug repositioning, based on simple fingerprint similarity rankings with data fusion. A large library containing 533 drug relevant targets with 179,807 active ligands was compiled, where each target was defined by its ligand set. For a given query molecule, its target profile is generated by similarity searching against the ligand sets assigned to each target, for which individual searches utilizing multiple reference structures are then fused into a single ranking list representing the potential target interaction profile of the query compound. The proposed approach was validated by 10-fold cross validation and two external tests using data from DrugBank and Therapeutic Target Database (TTD). The use of the approach was further demonstrated with some examples concerning the drug repositioning and drug side-effects prediction. The promising results suggest that the proposed method is useful for not only finding promiscuous drugs for their new usages, but also predicting some important toxic liabilities.ConclusionsWith the rapid increasing volume and diversity of data concerning drug related targets and their ligands, the simple ligand-based target fishing approach would play an important role in assisting future drug design and discovery.

Project description:Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of primary adult liver cancer. After nearly a decade with sorafenib as the only approved treatment, multiple new agents have demonstrated efficacy in clinical trials, including the targeted therapies regorafenib, lenvatinib and cabozantinib, the anti-angiogenic antibody ramucirumab, and the immune checkpoint inhibitors nivolumab and pembrolizumab. Although these agents offer new promise to patients with HCC, the optimal choice and sequence of therapies remains unknown and without established biomarkers, and many patients do not respond to treatment. The advances and the decreasing costs of molecular measurement technologies enable profiling of HCC molecular features (such as genome, transcriptome, proteome and metabolome) at different levels, including bulk tissues, animal models and single cells. The release of such data sets to the public enhances the ability to search for information from these legacy studies and provides the opportunity to leverage them to understand HCC mechanisms, rationally develop new therapeutics and identify candidate biomarkers of treatment response. Here, we provide a comprehensive review of public data sets related to HCC and discuss how emerging artificial intelligence methods can be applied to identify new targets and drugs as well as to guide therapeutic choices for improved HCC treatment.

Project description:We present the Eindhoven Wildflower Dataset (EWD) as well as a PyTorch object detection model that is able to classify and count wildflowers. EWD, collected over two entire flowering seasons and expert annotated, contains 2,002 top-view images of flowering plants captured 'in the wild' in five different landscape types (roadsides, urban green spaces, cropland, weed-rich grassland, marshland). It holds a total of 65,571 annotations for 160 species belonging to 31 different families of flowering plants and serves as a reference dataset for automating wildflower monitoring and object detection in general. To ensure consistent annotations, we define species-specific floral count units and provide extensive annotation guidelines. With a 0.82 mAP (@IoU > 0.50) score the presented baseline model, trained on a balanced subset of EWD, is to the best of our knowledge superior in its class. Our approach empowers automated quantification of wildflower richness and abundance, which helps understanding and assessing natural capital, and encourages the development of standards for AI-based wildflower monitoring. The annotated EWD dataset and the code to train and run the baseline model are publicly available.

Project description:Vitiligo is a skin disorder that is associated with a decreased risk of skin cancer, but it can lead to increased susceptibility to sunburn, psychological distress, and disruptions in daily life, consists of two primary subtypes: segmental and nonsegmental vitiligo, each with distinct underlying mechanisms. However, the reliable identification of diagnostic markers and the ability to differentiate between these subtypes have remained elusive challenges. This study aims to pioneer predictive algorithms for vitiligo diagnosis, harnessing the capabilities of AI (Artificial Intelligence) to amalgamate multisource data and uncover essential features for distinguishing vitiligo subtypes.An ensemble algorithm was thoughtfully developed for vitiligo diagnosis, utilizing a spectrum of machine learning techniques to evaluate the likelihood of vitiligo, whether segmental or nonsegmental. Diverse machine learning methodologies were applied to distinguish between healthy individuals and vitiligo patients, as well as to differentiate segmental from nonsegmental vitiligo. The ensemble algorithm achieved a remarkable AUC (Area Under the Curve) of 0.99 and an accuracy of 0.98 for diagnosing vitiligo. Furthermore, in predicting the development of segmental or nonsegmental vitiligo, the model exhibited an AUC of 0.79 and an accuracy of 0.73. Key parameters for vitiligo identification encompassed factors such as age, FBC (full blood count)-neutrophils, FBC-lymphocytes, LKF(liver and kidney function)-direct bilirubin, LKF-total bilirubin, and LKF-total protein levels. In contrast, vital indicators for monitoring the progression of segmental and nonsegmental vitiligo included FBC-B lymphocyte count, FBC-NK (Natural Killer) cell count, and LKF-alkaline phosphatase levels. This retrospective study underscores the potential of AI-driven analysis in identifying significant risk factors for vitiligo and predicting its subtypes at an early stage. These findings offer great promise for the development of effective diagnostic tools and the implementation of personalized treatment approaches in managing this challenging skin disorder.

Project description:IntroductionThis paper outlines the steps necessary to assess the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) as well as Big Data technologies and their relevance to the opioid crisis. Fatal opioid overdoses have risen to over 82 998 annually in the USA. This highlights the need for urgent and effective data-driven solutions. AI approaches, such as machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing, have been employed to analyse patterns and trends in overdose data and facilitate timely interventions. However, a comprehensive scoping review on the effectiveness of AI-driven technologies to detect, treat, prevent or respond to the opioid crisis remains absent. Thus, it is important to identify recent advancements in AI and Big Data technologies in addressing the opioid crisis.Methods and analysisWe will electronically search four scientific databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Engineering Village and PsycInfo), including finding reference lists and grey literature from 2013 to 2023. Covidence will be used for screening and selecting papers. We will extract information such as citation details, study context, data used, AI/Big Data technologies, features, algorithms and evaluation metrics. This data will be synthesised, analysed and summarised to draw meaningful conclusions and identify future directions to tackle the opioid crisis.Ethics and disseminationEthics approval is not required. Results will be disseminated via conference presentations and peer-reviewed publication.

Project description:Floating autonomous vehicles are very often equipped with modern systems that collect information about the situation under the water surface, e.g., the depth or type of bottom and obstructions on the seafloor. One such system is the multibeam echosounder (MBES), which collects very large sets of bathymetric data. The development and analysis of such large sets are laborious and expensive. Reduction of the spatial data obtained from bathymetric and other systems collecting spatial data is currently widely used. In commercial programs used in the development of data from hydrographic systems, methods of interpolation to a specific mesh size are very frequently used. The authors of this article previously proposed original the true bathymetric data reduction method (TBDRed) and Optimum Dataset (OptD) reduction methods, which maintain the actual position and depth for each of the measured points, without their interpolation. The effectiveness of the proposed methods has already been presented in previous articles. This article proposes the fusion of original reduction methods, which is a new and innovative approach to the problem of bathymetric data reduction. The article contains a description of the methods used and the methodology of developing bathymetric data. The proposed fusion of reduction methods allows the generation of numerical models that can be a safe, reliable source of information, and a basis for design. Numerical models can also be used in comparative navigation, during the creation of electronic navigation maps and other hydrographic products.

Project description:BackgroundCurrent blood glucose monitoring (BGM) methods are often invasive and require repetitive pricking of a finger to obtain blood samples, predisposing individuals to pain, discomfort, and infection. Noninvasive blood glucose monitoring (NIBGM) is ideal for minimizing discomfort, reducing the risk of infection, and increasing convenience.ObjectiveThis review aimed to map the use cases of artificial intelligence (AI) in NIBGM.MethodsA systematic scoping review was conducted according to the Arksey O'Malley five-step framework. Eight electronic databases (CINAHL, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, The Cochrane-Central Library, ACM Digital Library, and IEEE Xplore) were searched from inception until February 8, 2023. Study selection was conducted by 2 independent reviewers, descriptive analysis was conducted, and findings were presented narratively. Study characteristics (author, country, type of publication, study design, population characteristics, mean age, types of noninvasive techniques used, and application, as well as characteristics of the BGM systems) were extracted independently and cross-checked by 2 investigators. Methodological quality appraisal was conducted using the Checklist for assessment of medical AI.ResultsA total of 33 papers were included, representing studies from Asia, the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa published between 2005 and 2023. Most studies used optical techniques (n=19, 58%) to estimate blood glucose levels (n=27, 82%). Others used electrochemical sensors (n=4), imaging (n=2), mixed techniques (n=2), and tissue impedance (n=1). Accuracy ranged from 35.56% to 94.23% and Clarke error grid (A+B) ranged from 86.91% to 100%. The most popular machine learning algorithm used was random forest (n=10) and the most popular deep learning model was the artificial neural network (n=6). The mean overall checklist for assessment of medical AI score on the included papers was 33.5 (SD 3.09), suggesting an average of medium quality. The studies reviewed demonstrate that some AI techniques can accurately predict glucose levels from noninvasive sources while enhancing comfort and ease of use for patients. However, the overall range of accuracy was wide due to the heterogeneity of models and input data.ConclusionsEfforts are needed to standardize and regulate the use of AI technologies in BGM, as well as develop consensus guidelines and protocols to ensure the quality and safety of AI-assisted monitoring systems. The use of AI for NIBGM is a promising area of research that has the potential to revolutionize diabetes management.
