Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Schizothorax molesworthi (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae).

Project description:Schizothorax molesworthi is an endemic species and distributes in the MoTuo reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River. It is one of the most important commercial fishes in this area. In the present study, the complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Schizothorax molesworthi was determined and analyzed. The mitochondrial genome of Schizothorax molesworthi is 16,585 bp in length and consisted of 37genes in the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement. Overall base composition of mitochondrial genome of Schizothorax molesworthi was 30.1% A, 26.9% C, 17. 4% G, and 25.6% T, with a high A + T content (55.7%). Phylogenetic analysis showed that Schizothorax molesworthi and Schizothorax plagiostomus clustered together in a clade and formed a sister relationship.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Schizothorax davidi (Teleostei: Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae).

Project description:This study provides a mitochondrial complete genome of Schizothorax davidi. The complete genome is 16,576 bp in length with an A + T content of 54.9%, which contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that S. davidi is closely related to Schizothorax lissolabiatus. These results contribute to explore the adaptation strategy of S. davidi on the conditions of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Schizothorax sinensis (Teleostei: Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae).

Project description:This study describes the first sequencing of the complete mitochondrial genome of Schizothorax sinensis, a species of cyprinid snowtrout from the Jialing River and Fujiang River basins in China's Sichuan Province. The total length is 16,571 base pairs. Similar to most Schizothoracinae mitochondrial genomes, there are 37 genes including 13 protein coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and 2 ribosomal RNA genes. In addition, it contains a control region rich in A-T nucleotides. The overall nucleotide composition is 29.6% for A, 27.1% for C, 17.9% for G and 25.4% for T, and the percentage of GC content is 45.0%. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that Schizothorax sinensis and Schizothorax prenanti clustered together in a clade. This work provides additional molecular information for studying Schizothorax sinensis conservation genetics and evolutionary relationships.

The complete genome is 16,591 bp in length which contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, an origin of light-strand replication (OL) and a control region (D-Loop). The complete mtDNA sequence of S. gongshanensis provides a useful genetic marker for the studies on molecular systematics, population genetics and stock assessment.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Schizothorax curilabiatus (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Schizothorax curilabiatus was determined and analyzed. This mitochondrial genome was 16,578bp in length and showed significant AT bias (55.5% AT content, 44.5% GC content). Phylogenetic analysis showed that S. curilabiatus is more closely related to S. oconnori than to other species. The complete mitochondrial genome sequence provides an important dataset for the exploration of mitochondrial inheritance mechanism.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Schizothorax eurystomus Kessler, 1872 (Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae).

Project description:Schizothorax eurystomus, Kessler 1872 is a unique economic fish in Xinjiang, China that is rarely seen in the market. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) was used to determine the complete mitochondrial genome of S. eurystomus collected from the Yarkand River in Xinjiang. The results showed that the mitochondrial genome is a circular, 16,488-bp-long nucleotide with the typical vertebrate genome structure of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and a control region. The termination-associated sequence (TAS), central conserved sequence block (CSB), and conserved sequence block were detected in the control region. Phylogenetic analysis placed S. eurystomus in a fully supported clade with S. biddulphi, and that clade was sister to S. yunnanensis. To our knowledge, this is the first study on the complete mitochondrial genome of S. eurystomus from the Yarkand River in Xinjiang, and it provides baseline genetic information for future studies.

The complete mitochondrial genome of a new species of the genus Schizothorax from Sichuan, China (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae).

Project description:Schizothorax gulinensis sp. nov. is a new species of the genus Schizothorax from Sichuan, China (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae). In this study, we have first reported the complete mitochondrial genome of S. gulinensis with Illumina sequencing. There were 16,587 nucleotide pairs in the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of S. gulinensis, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), as well as one non-coding control region (CR). The proportion of nucleotides in mitochondrial genome was 29.67% (A), 25.45% (T), 17.84% (G), 27.05% (C), and A + T content was 55.12%. All PCGs have the same start codon of the standard ATG, excepting for that of NADH dehydrogenase subunit 1 (nad1) which was the ATC, NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5 (nad5) which was the ATT and cytochrome c oxidase 1 (cox1) which was the ATC. Phylogenetic analysis results supported that S. gulinensis was closely related to Schizothorax grahami. The complete mitochondrial sequence of S. gulinensis will contribute to mitochondrial genome database and provide useful resources for population genetics and evolution analyses.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Schizothorax dulongensis (Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae) from Irrawaddy River in China.

Project description:Schizothorax dulongensis Huang (1985) is an endemic species in China, which is mainly distributed in the Irrawaddy River and its tributaries. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome was sequenced. Its length is 16,579 bp, containing 22 tRNAs, two rRNAs, and 13 PCGs. The phylogenetic results showed that S. dulongensis and these species from Brahmaputra River clustered a clade, and supported the Brahmaputra River and the Irrawaddy River have been reorganized of drainage.

Sequencing and Characterization of Mitochondrial Protein-Coding Genes for Schizothorax niger (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae) with Phylogenetic Consideration.

Project description:The present study was conducted to get more information about the genome and locate the taxonomic position of Schizothorax niger in Schizothoracinae through mitochondrial 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs). These PCGs for S. niger were found to be 11409 bps in length ranging from 165 (ATPase 8) to 1824 bps (NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5) and encode 3801 amino acids. In these PCGs, 4 genes overlap on the similar strands, while one shown on the opposite one: ATPase 6+8 and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4+4L overlap by 7 nucleotides. Similarly, ND5-ND6 overlap by 4 nucleotides, while ATP6 and COIII overlap by 1 nucleotide. Similarly, four commonly used amino acids in S. niger were Leu (15.6 %), Ile (10.12 %), Thr (8.12 %), and Ala (8.7 %). The results presented that COII, COIII, NDI, ND4L, and Cytb had substantial amino acid conservation as compared to the COI gene. Through phylogenetic analysis, it was observed that S. niger is closely linked with S. progastus, S. labiatus, S. plagiostomus, and S. nepalensis with high bootstrap values. The present study provided more genomic data to know the diversity of the mitochondrial genome and its molecular evolution in Schizothoracinae.

Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Sinocyclocheilus oxycephalus (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae).

Project description:Sinocyclocheilus oxycephalus is a freshwater cyprinid fish of high nutritional value, endemic to Shilin County, Southwestern China. In this study, we first sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of S. oxycephalus. The whole length of mitogenome is 16,585 bp, which contains 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and a control region. The gene arrangement and structure is identical to other previously reported Sinocyclocheilus fishes. The overall base composition is 31.26% A, 16.42% G, 25.41% T and 26.90% C, with AT content of 56.67%. Phylogenetic analysis using mitogenomes of 13 cyprinid fishes showed that S. oxycephalus are closely related to S. anophthalmus, S. grahami, and S. wumengshanensis, and 11 Sinocyclocheilus species are grouped as a monophyletic clade with strong supports.
