Project description:Portfolio selection is an important issue for researchers and practitioners. In this paper, under the assumption that security returns are given by experts' evaluations rather than historical data, we discuss the portfolio adjusting problem which takes transaction costs and diversification degree of portfolio into consideration. Uncertain variables are employed to describe the security returns. In the proposed mean-variance-entropy model, the uncertain mean value of the return is used to measure investment return, the uncertain variance of the return is used to measure investment risk, and the entropy is used to measure diversification degree of portfolio. In order to solve the proposed model, a modified artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm is designed. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the modelling idea and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Project description:This paper investigates a well-known complex combinatorial problem known as the vehicle routing problem with time windows (VRPTW). Unlike the standard vehicle routing problem, each customer in the VRPTW is served within a given time constraint. This paper solves the VRPTW using an improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm. The performance of this algorithm is improved by a local optimization based on a crossover operation and a scanning strategy. Finally, the effectiveness of the IABC is evaluated on some well-known benchmarks. The results demonstrate the power of IABC algorithm in solving the VRPTW.

Project description:The standard artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm involves exploration and exploitation processes which need to be balanced for enhanced performance. This paper proposes a new modified ABC algorithm named JA-ABC5 to enhance convergence speed and improve the ability to reach the global optimum by balancing exploration and exploitation processes. New stages have been proposed at the earlier stages of the algorithm to increase the exploitation process. Besides that, modified mutation equations have also been introduced in the employed and onlooker-bees phases to balance the two processes. The performance of JA-ABC5 has been analyzed on 27 commonly used benchmark functions and tested to optimize the reactive power optimization problem. The performance results have clearly shown that the newly proposed algorithm has outperformed other compared algorithms in terms of convergence speed and global optimum achievement.

Project description:In genome-wide association studies, epistasis detection is of great significance for the occurrence and diagnosis of complex human diseases, but it also faces challenges such as high dimensionality and a small data sample size. In order to cope with these challenges, several swarm intelligence methods have been introduced to identify epistasis in recent years. However, the existing methods still have some limitations, such as high-consumption and premature convergence. In this study, we proposed a multi-objective artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm based on the scale-free network (SFMOABC). The SFMOABC incorporates the scale-free network into the ABC algorithm to guide the update and selection of solutions. In addition, the SFMOABC uses mutual information and the K2-Score of the Bayesian network as objective functions, and the opposition-based learning strategy is used to improve the search ability. Experiments were performed on both simulation datasets and a real dataset of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The results of the simulation experiments showed that the SFMOABC has better detection power and efficiency than seven other epistasis detection methods. In the real AMD data experiment, most of the single nucleotide polymorphism combinations detected by the SFMOABC have been shown to be associated with AMD disease. Therefore, SFMOABC is a promising method for epistasis detection.

Project description:There are many factors that affect the compressive strength of concrete. The relationship between compressive strength and these factors is a complex nonlinear problem. Empirical formulas commonly used to predict the compressive strength of concrete are based on summarizing experimental data of several different mix proportions and curing periods, and their generality is poor. This article proposes an improved artificial bee colony algorithm (IABC) and a multilayer perceptron (MLP) coupled model for predicting the compressive strength of concrete. To address the shortcomings of the basic artificial bee colony algorithm, such as easily falling into local optima and slow convergence speed, this article introduces a Gaussian mutation operator into the basic artificial bee colony algorithm to optimize the initial honey source position and designs an MLP neural network model based on the improved artificial bee colony algorithm (IABC-MLP). Compared with traditional strength prediction models, the ABC-MLP model can better capture the nonlinear relationship of the compressive strength of concrete and achieve higher prediction accuracy when considering the compound effect of multiple factors. The IABC-MLP model built in this study is compared with the ABC-MLP and particle swarm optimization (PSO) coupling algorithms. The research shows that IABC can significantly improve the training and prediction accuracy of MLP. Compared with the ABC-MLP and PSO-MLP coupling models, the training accuracy of the IABC-MLP model is increased by 1.6% and 4.5%, respectively. This model is also compared with common individual learning algorithms such as MLP, decision tree (DT), support vector machine regression (SVR), and random forest algorithms (RF). Based on the comparison of prediction results, the proposed method shows excellent performance in all indicators and demonstrates the superiority of heuristic algorithms in predicting the compressive strength of concrete.

The objective of this model was to identify valid novel, potentially useful, and understandable correlations and patterns in existing data. This review employs a thematic analysis of online series of academic papers to outline BCA in medical hive, reducing the response and computational time and optimizing the problems. To illustrate the benefits of this model, the cases of disease diagnose system are presented.

Project description:The dispatching of hydro-thermal system is a nonlinear programming problem with multiple constraints and high dimensions and the solution techniques of the model have been a hotspot in research. Based on the advantage of that the artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC) can efficiently solve the high-dimensional problem, an improved artificial bee colony algorithm has been proposed to solve DHTS problem in this paper. The improvements of the proposed algorithm include two aspects. On one hand, local search can be guided in efficiency by the information of the global optimal solution and its gradient in each generation. The global optimal solution improves the search efficiency of the algorithm but loses diversity, while the gradient can weaken the loss of diversity caused by the global optimal solution. On the other hand, inspired by genetic algorithm, the nectar resource which has not been updated in limit generation is transformed to a new one by using selection, crossover and mutation, which can ensure individual diversity and make full use of prior information for improving the global search ability of the algorithm. The two improvements of ABC algorithm are proved to be effective via a classical numeral example at last. Among which the genetic operator for the promotion of the ABC algorithm's performance is significant. The results are also compared with those of other state-of-the-art algorithms, the enhanced ABC algorithm has general advantages in minimum cost, average cost and maximum cost which shows its usability and effectiveness. The achievements in this paper provide a new method for solving the DHTS problems, and also offer a novel reference for the improvement of mechanism and the application of algorithms.

Project description:With the development of digital health, enhancing decision-making effectiveness has become a critical task. This study proposes an improved Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm aimed at optimizing decision-making models in the field of digital health. The algorithm draws inspiration from the dual-layer evolutionary space of cultural algorithms, combining normative knowledge from the credibility space to dynamically adjust the search range, thereby improving both convergence speed and exploration capabilities. Additionally, a population dispersion strategy is introduced to maintain diversity, effectively balancing global exploration with local exploitation. Experimental results show that the improved ABC algorithm exhibits a 96% convergence probability when approaching the global optimal solution, significantly enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of medical resource optimization, particularly in complex decision-making environments. Integrating this algorithm with the Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT) decision system can intelligently generate personalized decision recommendations and leverage natural language processing technologies to better understand and respond to user needs. This study provides an effective tool for scientific decision-making in digital healthcare and offers critical technical support for processing and analyzing large-scale medical data.

Project description:BackgroundThe Automatic Essay Score (AES) prediction system is essential in education applications. The AES system uses various textural and grammatical features to investigate the exact score value for AES. The derived features are processed by various linear regressions and classifiers that require the learning pattern to improve the overall score.IssuesMoreover, the classifiers face catastrophic forgetting problems, which maximizes computation complexity and reduce prediction accuracy. The forgetting problem can be resolved using the freezing mechanism; however, the mechanism can cause prediction errors.MethodTherefore, this research proposes an optimized Bi-directional Encoder Representation from Transformation (BERT) by applying the Artificial Bee Colony algorithm (ABC) and Fine-Tuned Model (ABC-BERT-FTM) to solve the forgetting problem, which leads to higher prediction accuracy. Therefore, the ABC algorithm reduces the forgetting problem by selecting optimized network parameters.ResultsTwo AES datasets, ASAP and ETS, were used to evaluate the performance of the optimized BERT of the AES system, and a high accuracy of up to 98.5% was achieved. Thus, based on the result, we can conclude that optimizing the BERT with a suitable meta-heuristic algorithm, such as the ABC algorithm, can resolve the forgetting problem, eventually increasing the AES system's prediction accuracy.

Project description:In the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm, the employed bee and the onlooker bee phase involve updating the candidate solutions by changing a value in one dimension, dubbed one-dimension update process. For some problems which the number of dimensions is very high, the one-dimension update process can cause the solution quality and convergence speed drop. This paper proposes a new algorithm, using reinforcement learning for solution updating in ABC algorithm, called R-ABC. After updating a solution by an employed bee, the new solution results in positive or negative reinforcement applied to the solution dimensions in the onlooker bee phase. Positive reinforcement is given when the candidate solution from the employed bee phase provides a better fitness value. The more often a dimension provides a better fitness value when changed, the higher the value of update becomes in the onlooker bee phase. Conversely, negative reinforcement is given when the candidate solution does not provide a better fitness value. The performance of the proposed algorithm is assessed on eight basic numerical benchmark functions in four categories with 100, 500, 700, and 900 dimensions, seven CEC2005's shifted functions with 100, 500, 700, and 900 dimensions, and six CEC2014's hybrid functions with 100 dimensions. The results show that the proposed algorithm provides solutions which are significantly better than all other algorithms for all tested dimensions on basic benchmark functions. The number of solutions provided by the R-ABC algorithm which are significantly better than those of other algorithms increases when the number of dimensions increases on the CEC2005's shifted functions. The R-ABC algorithm is at least comparable to the state-of-the-art ABC variants on the CEC2014's hybrid functions.
