Project description:AimBibliometric and data visualization methods were used to identify the current status, key areas, and emerging frontiers in ropivacaine research.MethodsWe conducted a comprehensive search of the Web of Science database for publications related to ropivacaine published from 2000 to 2023. The publication types were limited to original articles and reviews. We utilized CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the online bibliometric platform to visualize and analyze the collected data.ResultsA total of 4,147 publications related to ropivacaine were identified, with a consistent growth in annual publications over time. The United States emerged as the most influential country in the field of ropivacaine research, and ranked first in the annual number of publications until 2014. China surpassed the United States in the number of publications for the first time in 2015 and has remained in first place ever since. Of all the research institutions in the field of ropivacaine, University of Copenhagen in Denmark exhibited the highest impact. Brian M. Ilfeld and Casati A were identified as the most influential authors. The leading researchers in this field primarily focused their publications on continuous nerve blocks for postoperative analgesia and ultrasound-guided nerve block techniques. An analysis of reference co-citation clustering revealed 18 distinct research clusters, with current hotspots including erector spinae plane block, dexmedetomidine, quadratus lumborum block, labor analgesia, and mitochondrial respiration. Additionally, keywords analysis indicated that "dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant in nerve blocks" currently represents a research hotspot in the field of ropivacaine.ConclusionThis bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the research landscape in ropivacaine. It reveals research trends in this field and emerging areas for future investigations. Notably, the application of ropivacaine in nerve blocks is a prominent focus in current research, with a particular emphasis on its combination with dexmedetomidine.
Project description:BackgroundPatellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a prevalent condition in sports medicine, and as sports competitions become more popular, the incidence of sports injuries is on the rise. Despite the increasing research on PFPS, there remains a lack of bibliometric analyses on this topic. The aim of this study was to identify the research hotspots and trends in the field of PFPS by reviewing 23 years of literature in this field.MethodsBy analyzing the literature on PFPS research from 2000 to 2023 in the core dataset of the Web of Science database and utilizing bibliometric tools like CiteSpace 6.1, VOSviewer 1.6.18, R-bibliometrix 4.6.1, Pajek 5.16, and Scimago Graphica 1.0.26, our aim was to gain insights into the current status and key areas of PFPS research. The study examined various aspects including the number of publications, countries, institutions, journals, authors, collaborative networks, keywords, and more. Through the visualization of relevant data, we also attempted to forecast future trends in the field.ResultsThere were 2,444 publications were included in this visualization study, published in 322 journals by 1,247 authors from 818 institutions in 67 countries. The Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy had the highest number of publications, with the USA leading in article count. La Trobe University contributed the most articles, while Rathleff MS and Barton CJ emerged as the most prolific authors. Hip and knee strength and core strength, lower extremity kinematics and biomechanics, females (runners), muscle activation, risk factors, gait retraining, clinical practice guidelines, and rehabilitation were research hotspot keywords.ConclusionCurrent research suggests that there is still significant potential for the development of PFPS research. Key areas of focus include the clinical effectiveness of combined hip and knee strengthening to address PFPS, characterization of lower limb kinematics and biomechanics, gait retraining, risk factors, and clinical practice guidelines. Future research could explore the effectiveness of innovative exercise therapies such as blood flow restricting training, gait retraining, and neuromuscular control training for PFPS improvement. Further investigation into gait retraining for runners, particularly females, and clinical efficacy study of a novel PRP formulation for the treatment of PFPS.
Project description:BackgroundTraumatic brain injury (TBI) is a critical global health concern characterized by elevated rates of both morbidity and mortality. The pathological and physiological changes after TBI are closely related to microglia. Microglia, the primary immune cells in the brain, are closely linked to the mechanisms and treatment of TBI. With increasing research in this area, this study employs bibliometric analysis to identify current research hotspots and predict future trends.ObjectiveWe decided to perform a bibliometric analysis to provide a comprehensive overview of the advancements in microglia research related to traumatic brain injury. We aim to offer researchers insights into current trends and future research directions.MethodWe collected all articles and reviews related to microglia and traumatic brain injury published between 2000 and 2023 from the Web of Science Core Collection. These records were analyzed using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the R package "bibliometrix".ResultsWe retrieved 665 publications from 25 countries, with the majority contributed by the United States and China. The number of publications on traumatic brain injury and microglia has been steadily increasing each year. Our analysis highlighted the Journal of Neurotrauma and the Journal of Neuroinflammation as the most influential journals in this field. Alan I. Faden and David J. Loane are recognized as leading contributors. Keyword analysis indicates that neuroinflammation, microglial polarization, and neurodegenerative diseases are pivotal areas for future research.ConclusionIn recent years, research on TBI-related microglia has proliferated, with current studies primarily focusing on microglial involvement in neuroinflammation, neurodegenerative changes, and microglial polarization following TBI. Since neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration are two hallmark features of TBI, targeting microglia in TBI treatment may become a central focus for future research.
Project description:Globally, the incidence rates of obesity and its related diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes, are continuously rising, posing a significant public health challenge. Studies have indicated a potential correlation between vitamin D deficiency and obesity. However, a quantitative analysis of the studies related vitamin D and obesity is lacking. This investigation aims to fill this gap by providing a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to uncover the collaborative networks, research hotspots, and evolutionary trends within the field of vitamin D and obesity research. This study retrieved literature related to vitamin D and obesity from the Web of Science database spanning from 2000 to 2023. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using tools such as HistCite, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace to excavate multi-dimensional information including countries, institutions, authors, journals, citations, and keywords. A total of 6,144 records were retrieved, involving 123 countries, 6,726 institutions, and 28,156 authors, published in 1,551 journals. The number of published papers and citations showed a generally increasing trend. The United States led in terms of publication volume and influence, with journals such as Nutrients and Obesity Surgery having the highest publication counts. Nasser M. Al-Daghri was the most prolific and influential author. Keyword clustering revealed that research topics covered metabolic health, nutrition, immunity, and bariatric surgery. Citation burst analysis indicated a shift in research focus from the relationship between dietary calcium and obesity to the preventive effects of vitamin D supplementation on metabolic diseases. The application of bibliometric methods to analyze the research literature in the fields of obesity and vitamin D has provided a comprehensive understanding of the collaborative networks, key research focus, and evolutionary trends in this field, offering insights for guiding future research directions.
Project description:BackgroundOptic nerve imaging is crucial for diagnosing and understanding optic neuropathies because it provides detailed visualization of the nerve's structure and pathologies through advanced modalities. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis within the field of optic nerve imaging, aiming to pinpoint the latest research trends and focal points in optic nerve imaging.MethodsThe core literature on optic nerve imaging published between January 1991 and August 2023 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. The analysis and visualization of scientific productivity and emerging trends were facilitated through the utilization of Bibliometrix software, CiteSpace, Gephi, VOSviewer, R software, and Python.ResultsIn total, 15,247 publications on optic nerve imaging were included in the analysis. Notably, the top 3 journals contributing to this field were Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Ophthalmology, and the British Journal of Ophthalmology. This research on optic nerve imaging extended across 97 countries, with the USA leading in research endeavors. Noteworthy burst term analysis revealed that "Segmentation" and "Machine learning" are gaining attention. Additionally, the Latent Dirichlet Allocation model indicated that image processing has been a hotspot in recent years.ConclusionsThis study revealed the research trends, hotspots, and emerging topics in optic nerve imaging through bibliometric analysis and network visualization. At present, the research focus is directed towards employing artificial intelligence for image post-processing. The findings of this study offer valuable insights into future research direction and clinical applications.
Project description:ObjectiveThe practice of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is widely used for maximizing the clinical efficacy of antimicrobials. However, a systematic bibliometric analysis providing an overview of this field is lacking at present. The aim of the current study was to identify hotspots and trends in antimicrobial TDM, highlight collaborations and influences among countries, institutions, and journals, and assess the knowledge base for further development of clinical research.Research design and methodsArticles and reviews related to TDM of antimicrobials from the Web of Science Core Collection were collected. CiteSpace and VOSviewer, two visualization tools, were utilized to graphically assess the key elements within this domain, including mapping of countries and regions, institutions, keywords, and references associated with the field of antimicrobial TDM. Through this approach, we were able to successfully provide a comprehensive visual overview of the research landscape, highlighting the significant players and thematic trends in the literature.ResultsFrom 2000 to 2023, a total of 17,236 authors from 4,112 institutions in 112 countries/regions published 3,710 papers in 819 academic journals. The United States had the highest number of publications, with University of Queensland identified as the most active institution. The journal with the greatest number of publications was Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, whereas Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy was the most co-cited journal. Current research focuses on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, vancomycin, posaconazole, invasive fungal infection and critically ill patients. Promising hotspots for future research include vancomycin, voriconazole, meropenem, isavuconazole, posaconazole, and teicoplanin. Moreover, vancomycin and critically ill patients remain a hot topic of future research.ConclusionUsing bibliometric and visualization methods, the research hotspots of antimicrobial drugs in TDM were analyzed. The continued increase in the number of annual publications demonstrates the vital significance of TDM for antimicrobials. Data from this study provide a valuable reference for future research trends in TDM of antimicrobial agents.
Project description:BackgroundInfantile hemangioma (IH) has received global attention, resulting in a significant volume of literature. However, there is a lack of bibliometric analyses specifically focusing on IH publications. This study aims to fill this gap by conducting a comprehensive analysis of IH publications, investigating their characteristics, contribution distribution, and developmental trends. By enhancing our understanding of IH and identifying potential research topics and collaborators, this study will contribute to the advancement of the field.MethodsA total of 4333 articles and reviews on IH were collected from the Web of Science (WoS) database, spanning the years 2000-2022. The study encompassed a comprehensive analysis of IH publications, evaluating their quantity and quality. Additionally, we profiled publishing groups based on country, institution, author publication records, and collaboration networks. Lastly, we identified and summarized the prominent research topics.ResultsAnnual publications on IH have increased over the past 20 years. The United States has the highest number of publications and the highest total number of citations. Pediatric Dermatology was the most influential journal in the IH field. The citation analysis indicated that the articles published by Léauté-Labrèze in 2008 had the highest number of citations. The articles published by North PE in 2000 and Boye E in 2001 laid a certain research foundation for this field. Concerning institutions, most of the cooperative relationships were established in the same country/region. The United States has the largest number of scientific research institutions and IH researchers, leading most of the cross-country collaboration. The University of California, San Francisco, Medical College of Wisconsin, Harvard University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University were the research centers that published the most IH-related research. Frieden IJ, Mulliken JB, and Drolet BA were the top three most influential authors. Frieden IJ, Garzon MC, and Mulliken JB were the top three authors with the most cited frequency. In addition, keywords and keyword co-occurrence networks prompted that the pathological mechanism of IH, clinical analysis, and other vascular anomalies are research hotspots. Analysis of trending topics suggests that research on IH has evolved from treatment-focused studies towards investigations of other vascular diseases and a series of clinical case studies. Currently, clinical case studies receive the most attention in the field.ConclusionsThis comprehensive bibliometric study provides a thorough analysis of post-2000 publications in the field of IH, offering insights into current research trends for the first time. The findings suggest that future investigations will continue to prioritize understanding IH mechanisms, treatment approaches, and treatment evaluation. Furthermore, the exploration of other vascular diseases and the inclusion of clinical case studies are expected to contribute to advancements in IH clinical practice. By identifying potential collaborators, partner institutions, and new research avenues, this study offers valuable guidance for future in-depth research on IH.
Project description:The research on the mechanism of nephrolithiasis formation is of great importance due to the fact that the high incidence and recurrence rate of nephrolithiasis bring considerable economic burdens to patients and society. As an important component in the nephrolithiasis formation process, the immune-inflammatory process has been gradually valued by researchers in recent years. In this study, articles related to the immune-inflammatory process of nephrolithiasis published since 2000 were retrieved based on the Web of Science (WoS) database. Eventually, a total of 370 articles were selected for subsequent analyses. Besides, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Bibliometrix were employed to quantitatively analyze and visualize the data. The number of articles related to the immune-inflammatory process of nephrolithiasis has increased rapidly in the last five years. From the country level, most articles were contributed by China (n = 140) and the United States (n = 99) contributed the most documents. From the institution level, University of Florida (n = 36) and Nagoya City University (n = 21) had the most articles. From the journal level, Journal of Urology and Urolithiasis published the most articles in this field. Keywords mainly included inflammation, oxidative stress, calcium oxalate, osteopontin, and hyperoxaluria, which represented the research directions in this field. The most productive author was Khan SR (n = 33), whose articles obtained the highest number of citations (2086 times). These efforts may help researchers understand the current progress and status of research on the immune-inflammatory process of nephrolithiasis and identify future research hotspots and directions.
Project description:Hypertensive nephropathy continues to be a major cause of end-stage renal disease and poses a significant global health burden. Despite the staggering development of research in hypertensive nephropathy, scientists and clinicians can only seek out useful information through articles and reviews, it remains a hurdle for them to quickly track the trend in this field. This study uses the bibliometric method to identify the evolutionary development and recent hotspots of hypertensive nephropathy. The Web of Science Core Collection database was used to extract publications on hypertensive nephropathy from January 2000 to November 2023. CiteSpace was used to capture the patterns and trends from multi-perspectives, including countries/regions, institutions, keywords, and references. In total, 557 publications on hypertensive nephropathy were eligible for inclusion. China (n = 208, 37.34%) was the most influential contributor among all the countries. Veterans Health Administration (n = 19, 3.41%) was found to be the most productive institution. Keyword bursting till now are renal fibrosis, outcomes, and mechanisms which are predicted to be the potential frontiers and hotspots in the future. The top seven references were listed, and their burst strength was shown. A comprehensive overview of the current status and research frontiers of hypertensive nephropathy has been provided through the bibliometric perspective. Recent advancements and challenges in hypertensive nephropathy have been discussed. These findings can offer informative instructions for researchers and scholars.

However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis in this field is currently lacking. In this study, we aim to shed light on the current status, identify the emerging hot topics, and provide valuable insights for researchers within this field.MethodsIn this study, we collected 414 research via the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) from 2009 to 2023. CiteSpace, VOSviewer and R package "bibliometrix" were used for analysis of countries, institutions, journals, etc., to evaluate the trends.ResultsThe amounts of publications in relation to OMI guided nerve imaging has been increasing. United States and China contributed to over 60% of the publications. The Shanghai Jiao Tong University contributed the highest number of publications. Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science is considered the most prestigious and prolific journal in the field. It is also widely regarded as the most cited journal. Among the top 10 authors in terms of output, Hehir CAT has the highest number of citations. The "neurosciences neurology," "science technology other topics," and "ophthalmology" are representative research areas. The main cluster of keywords in this field includes "axonal regeneration," "mouse," and "optical coherence tomography."ConclusionThis bibliometric investigation offers a comprehensive portrayal of the structure of knowledge and the progression patterns, presents an all-encompassing synthesis of findings, discerns and illustrates the forefront within OMI guided nerve imaging for the first time. It will provide a valuable reference for relevant scholars.
