A key to species of L.violentus species group is provided.
Project description:Four previously described species of Argopistes are recognized and redescribed from Japan and Taiwan: A.biplagiatus Motschulsky, 1860, A.rufus Chen, 1934, A.tsekooni Chen, 1934, and A.unicolor Jacoby, 1885. Three new species from Taiwan, A.jungchani sp. nov., A.tsoui sp. nov., and A.yuae sp. nov., are described. Descriptions of species include illustrations of aedeagi, antennae, gonocoxae, abdominal ventrite VIII, and spermathecae. Argopistesrufus Chen, 1934, stat. nov. is raised to species status from a variety of A.biplagiatus Motschulsky, 1860. Argopistescoccinelliformis Csiki, 1940, syn. nov. and A.ryukyuensis Shigetoh & Suenaga, 2022, syn. nov. are proposed as junior synonyms of A.rufus Chen, 1934 Lectotypes are designated for A.undecimmaculata Jacoby, 1885, A.unicolor Jacoby, 1885, and A.biplagiatusvar.rufus Chen, 1934.
Project description:The West Indian flea beetle genus Hemilactica Blake, 1937 is reviewed. Two new species, both from the Dominican Republic are described and illustrated: H. erwini sp. nov. and H. sierramatringarcia sp. nov. In addition, images of the holotypes of H. portoricensis Blake, H. pulchella Blake, and H. rugosa Blake are provided. Lactica megaspila (Blake) is transferred to Hemilactica. A lectotype of H. quatuordecimpunctata (Suffrian, 1868) is designated and illustrated, and a key to the Hemilactica species and a key for identification of Hemilactica and related genera occurring in the Western Hemisphere are provided.
Project description:Blakealtica fusca a new genus and new species from the Dominican Republic is described and illustrated. In addition to external features, beetle thoracic sclerites (including metendosternite) are fully examined and illustrated. Blakealtica is similar to Monomacra Chevrolat,1836 and related genera (Disonycha Chevrolat, 1836, Hemilactica Blake, 1937, Myrmeconycha Konstantinov & Tishechkin, 2017, Parchicola Bechyne & Bechyne, 1975, Pseudodisonycha Blake, 1954, and Rosalactica Bechyne & Bechyne, 1977) as all studied representatives of these genera are missing the sclerotized vaginal palpi or have them membranous and otherwise poorly developed. This feature may be unique for the Monomacra group of genera as it has not been seen anywhere else in flea beetles.
Project description:Chinese species of Chaetocnemasemicoerulea group are revised and three new species described as new: Chaetocnemasalixis sp. n., Chaetocnemayulongensis sp. n. and Chaetocnemadeqinensis sp. n.. A key to all five species of this group occurring in China and the illustrations of habitus and genitalia are provided. A map of species distribution is given.
Project description:In this contribution, Ugandaltica wagnerigen. n. and sp. n., collected from the canopies in the Budongo Forest, Uganda, is described. Similarities and affinities with other small-sized and convex-shaped flea beetle genera, occurring in the Afrotropical region, are discussed. Micrographs of diagnostic characters, including male and female genitalia, are supplied. Finally, some considerations on the ecology of canopy flea beetles are also reported.
Project description:A new species of the little-known genus Demarchus Jacoby was discovered at Pilu, East Taiwan, and is here described as Demarchushsuisp. nov. The larvae and adults utilise showy mistletoes as food plants. Their remarkable biology is described in detail, including egg deposition and leaf mining behaviour. Their biology is compared with that of other members of the genus.
