Ubiquitination is a posttranslational modification in eukaryotes that plays a significant role in the infection of intracellular microbial pathogens, such as Legionella pneumophila. While the Legionella-containing vacuole (LCV) is coated with ubiquitin (Ub), it avoids recognition by autophagy adaptors.
