The genome sequences of Rhodopirellula baltica, formerly Pirellula sp. strain 1, Blastopirellula marina, Gemmata obscuriglobus, and Kuenenia stuttgartiensis were used in a series of pairwise reciprocal best-hit analyses to evaluate the contested evolutionary position of Planctomycetes.
