Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are neoplastic mesenchymal proliferations featuring an inflammatory infiltrate composed primarily of lymphocytes and plasma cells. The myofibroblastic cells in some IMTs contain chromosomal rearrangements involving the ALK receptor tyrosine-kinase locus region (chromosome band 2p23).
