During mitosis, the spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) inhibits the Cdc20-activated anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C(Cdc20)), which promotes protein degradation, and delays anaphase onset to ensure accurate chromosome segregation.
