Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurologic disorder characterized by dopaminergic cell death in the substantia nigra. PD pathogenesis involves mitochondrial dysfunction, proteasome impairment, and alpha-synuclein aggregation, insults that may be especially toxic to oxidatively stressed cells including dopaminergic neurons.
