Precise control of Wnt/beta-catenin signaling is critical for animal development, stem cell renewal, and prevention of disease. In the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, the naked cuticle (nkd) gene limits signaling by the Wnt ligand Wingless (Wg) during embryo segmentation.
