The amyloid-beta precursor protein (AbetaPP) is a ubiquitously expressed transmembrane protein whose cleavage product, the amyloid-beta (Abeta) protein, is deposited in amyloid plaques in neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer disease, Down syndrome, and head injury.
