<h4>Background</h4>The molecular cause of inflammatory bowel disease is largely unknown.<h4>Methods</h4>We performed genetic-linkage analysis and candidate-gene sequencing on samples from two unrelated consanguineous families with children who were affected by early-onset inflammatory bowel disease.
