Precise regulation of neurogenesis is achieved in specific regions of the vertebrate nervous system by formation of distinct neurogenic and nonneurogenic zones. We have investigated how neurogenesis becomes confined to zones adjacent to rhombomere boundaries in the zebrafish hindbrain.
