Compensatory endocytosis follows regulated exocytosis in cells ranging from eggs to neurons, but the means by which it is accomplished are unclear. In Xenopus eggs, compensatory endocytosis is driven by dynamic coats of assembling actin that surround and compress exocytosing cortical granules (CGs).
