<h4>Aims</h4>Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia, is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. A genetic mutation in the NPPA gene, which encodes the atrial natriuretic peptide, has been identified as the putative causative factor in a family with an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance for AF.
