ABSTRACT: In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cd(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](C(4)H(2)O(4))·4H(2)O, the Cd(II) atom, on an inversion centre, is six-coordinated by four O atoms from four water mol-ecules and two N atoms from 4,4'-bpy mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. Weak C-H?O inter-actions between uncoordinated carboxyl-ate O atoms of fumaric acid and water mol-ecules contribute to the crystal packing stability.

Project description:In the title compound, {[Zn(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](C(4)H(2)O(4))·4H(2)O}(n), the Zn(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from two ?-4,4'-bipyridine ligands and four water mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The coordination unit is extended through the Zn-N bond, leading to a one-dimensional cationic chain. A twofold rotation axis passes through the Zn atom and along the axis of the 4,4'-bipyridine ligand. Each uncoordinated water mol-ecule acts as both hydrogen-bond donor and acceptor. A three-dimensional network is constructed through hydrogen bonds involving water mol-ecules and fumarate dianions.

Project description:In the title compound, {[Co(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](ClO(4))(2)·2C(10)H(8)N(2)·2H(2)O}(n), slightly distorted octa-hedrally coordinated Co(II) ions situated on inversion centers are linked into polycationic chains through 4,4'-bipyridine tethering ligands. These are connected into supra-molecular layers by hydrogen bonding involving aqua ligands, perchlorate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. A twofold inter-penetrated primitive cubic supra-molecular network is formed by the inter-action of pseudo-layers by hydrogen bonding between aqua ligands and unligated 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules.

Project description:In the structure of the title compound, 2[Ag(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)](C(7)H(6)NO(2))(NO(3))·H(2)O, the Ag(I) atom is three-coordinated in a T-shaped configuration by two N atoms from two symmetry-related 4,4'-bipyridine (bipy) ligands at short distances and by one water O atom at a longer distance. Each bipy ligand bridges two neighbouring Ag(I) atoms, forming a chain structure extending parallel to [101]. The complete 4-amino-benzoate anion, the nitrate anion and the uncoordinated water mol-ecule are located on mirror planes: together with the coordinated water mol-ecule, they form N-H⋯O, O-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, stabilizing the crystal structure.

The Zn(II) ion exhibits a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry in which the four water mol-ecules are in the equatorial positions. The anions are hydrogen bonded to the polycationic chains by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network. The Zn(II) ion, 4,4'-bipy ligand and anion lie on special positions of 2/m site symmetry.

Both cation and anion have crystallographic twofold rotation symmetry with the twofold axes passing through the Cu and N atoms and through the midpoint of the central C-C bond. The 4,4'-bipyridyl ligand links the Cu(II) atoms into a linear chain along the b axis. The Cd atom, which lies on a twofold rotation axis, is chelated by the carboxyl-ate unit and exists in a seven-coordinate penta-gonal-bipyramidal geometry. The apical sites are occupied by N atoms. The water mol-ecule also lies on the twofold rotation axis. The methyl substituent of the propano-ate group is disordered over two positions in a 1:1 ratio. O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding between water molecules and adjacent carboxylate O atoms is observed.
