Regulators of G protein signaling accelerate GTP hydrolysis by G alpha subunits and profoundly inhibit signaling by G protein-coupled receptors. The distinct expression patterns and pathophysiologic regulation of regulators of G protein signaling proteins suggest that inhibitors may have therapeutic potential.
