N'-(5-Bromo-2-hydr-oxy-3-methoxy-benzyl-idene)isonicotinohydrazide.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(14)H(12)BrN(3)O(3), was prepared by reaction of 5-bromo-3-methoxy-salicylaldehyde and isonicotinohydrazide in methanol. The mol-ecule is not planar and adopts a trans configuration with respect to the C=N bond. There is an intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond in the mol-ecule. The dihedral angle between the benzene and pyridine rings is 12.2?(2)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular N-H?N hydrogen bonds, forming chains running along the c-axis direction.

Project description:The title compound, C(14)H(13)N(3)O(3), was synthesized by the condensation reaction of 2-hydr-oxy-4-methoxy-benzaldehyde with isonicotinohydrazide in a methanol solution. Project description:In the title compound, C(16)H(15)BrN(2)O(5)·2H(2)O, the dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings is 2.9 (2)° and an intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond is observed. One of the water mol-ecule is disordered over two positions, with occupancies of 0.83 (3) and 0.17 (3). In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional network by inter-molecular O-H⋯O, O-H⋯(O,O), O-H⋯N and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. π-π inter-actions involving Br-substituted benzene rings, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.552 (3) Å are also observed.

The amido N atom is the hydrogen-bond donor to the water mol-ecule, which is the hydrogen-bond donor to the hydr-oxy groups of two neighboring mol-ecules. One of the hydroxyl groups acts as an intra-molecular and the other as an inter-molecular hydrogen-bond donor.

The inter-planar angle between the benzene and acetohydrazide planes is 8.50?(10)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional network by strong and weak O-H?O and strong N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The hydr-oxy H atom deviates from the 4-hydr-oxy-3-methoxy-phenyl mean plane by 0.319?(2)?Å, probably due to the involvement of this H atom in the O-H?O hydrogen bond. The weak O-H?O hydrogen bond is involved in a bifurcated hydrogen bond with R(1) (2)(4) motif. A weak C-H?? inter-action is also present.

In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O, O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O inter-actions, generating a three-dimensional network.
