ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [CdCl(2)(C(12)H(12)N(2))](n), contains one half-mol-ecule; a twofold rotation axis passes through the Cd atom. The Cd(II) atom is six-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral configuration by two N atoms from 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'-dimethyl and four bridging Cl atoms. The bridging function of the chloro atoms leads to a one-dimensional chain structure. There is a ?-? contact between the pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.9807?(9)?Å].

Project description:In the title compound, [Cu(C(14)H(8)O(5))(C(12)H(12)N(2))(H(2)O)](n), the Cu(II) ion is penta-coordinated in a square-pyramidal geometry. Two N atoms of the chelating 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (dbp) ligand and two O atoms of two different 2,2'-oxydibenzoic (odb) ligands occupy the basal plane while the water O atom completes the square-pyramidal geometry at the apical site. The non-water N(2)O(2) donor atoms are nearly coplanar, with a mean deviation from the least-squares plane of 0.0518?(11)?Å and the Cu atom is displaced by 0.1507?(11)?Å from this plane towards the apical water O atom. Further coordination via the 2,2'-oxydibenzoate anions forms a one-dimensional coordination polymer extending parallel to [010]. In the crystal structure, O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

Project description:In the title compound, [Cu(2)Cl(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2)O(4))(2)]·4C(3)H(7)NO, which contains a chloride-bridged centrosymmetric Cu(II) dimer, the Cu(II) atom is in a distorted square-pyramidal 4 + 1 coordination geometry defined by the N atoms of the chelating 2,2'-bipyridine ligand, a terminal chloride and two bridging chloride ligands. Of the two independent dimethyl-formamide mol-ecules, one is hydrogen bonded to a single -COOH group, while one links two adjacent -COOH groups via a strong accepted O-H?O and a weak donated C(O)-H?O hydrogen bond. Two of these last mol-ecules and the two -COOH groups form a centrosymmetric hydrogen-bonded ring in which the CH=O and the -COOH groups by disorder adopt two alternate orientations in a 0.44:0.56 ratio. These hydrogen bonds link the Cu(II) complex mol-ecules and the dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules into infinite chains along [-111]. Slipped ?-? stacking inter-actions between two centrosymmetric pyridine rings (centroid-centroid distance = 3.63?Å) contribute to the coherence of the structure along [0-11].

One Cd(II) atom is coordinated by four Cl atoms and two O atoms from two morpholinium ligands, while the other is coordinated by six Cl atoms. Adjacent Cd(II) atoms are inter-connected alternately by paired chloride bridges, generating a chain parallel to the a axis. Inter-chain N-H?Cl inter-actions form a two-dimensional network.

The asymmetric unit contains the cadmium complex, half a 2,2'-bipyridine solvent mol-ecule and a solvent water mol-ecule. The Cd(II) ion is coordinated by four N atoms from two 2,2'-bipyridine ligands and two N atoms from an HBTA(-) anion ligand [where H(2)BTA is N,N-bis-(1H-tetra-zol-5-yl)amine], forming an octa-hedral geometry. The complex is linked into a three-dimensional network by O-H?N and N-H?N hydrogen bonds and by the stacking inter-actions of rings, with distances of 3.5-3.7?Å between the atoms of two parallel 2,2'-bipyridine rings.
