Bis[N-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-N-methyl-glycinato]copper(II).

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Cu(C(5)H(10)NO(3))(2)], was obtained unintentionally as the product of an attempted synthesis of a Cu/Cd mixed-metal mixed-anion complex using zerovalent copper, cadmium(II) oxide and two ammonium salts in the presence of 2-dimethyl-amino-ethanol in acetonitrile, in air. The mol-ecule is centrosymmetric with two monodeprotonated N-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-N-methyl-glycines coordinated to the metal in a tridentate mode, giving a bicyclic chelate with two distorted five-membered rings. The Cu(II) ion possesses a distorted octa-hedral geometry, with the N and the O atoms from the carboxyl-ate groups in the equatorial plane. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions from the alkoxide functions of the ligand through the inversion centre form columns of mol-ecules propagated along the a axis.

Project description:The title complex, [Cu(C(18)H(18)N(2)O(6))], was synthesized by the reaction of copper(II) acetate mono-hydrate with the ligand 4,4'-dimeth-oxy-2,2'-[ethyl-enedioxy-bis(nitrilo-methyl-idyne)]diphenol (H(2)L). The Cu atom is coordinated by two O atoms and two N atoms of the L(2-) unit. A bridged dimer is formed through inter-molecular Cu⋯O inter-actions [Cu⋯O = 1.9408 (15) Å], creating a distorted square-pyramidal geometry about the Cu atoms.

O atoms of adjacent mol-ecules coordinate in the axial positions. Jahn-Teller tetra-gonal distortion is evident in the coordination geometry [Cu-N and Cu-O equatorial distances of 1.971?(3) and 2.045?(2)?Å, respectively, with a Cu-O axial distance of 2.433?(3)?Å]. Project description:In the title compound, [Cu(C(8)H(8)NO)(2)], a strictly square-planar geometry about the Cu(II) metal atom is observed. Substitution of an O atom with a methyl-functionalized N atom does not significantly alter the bond distances and angles in the copper(II) complex when compared with a similar bis-(troponato)copper(II) complex. ?-? stacking is observed between the tropolone rings, with inter-planar distances of 3.5039?(16) and 3.2933?(15)?Å, respectively. Project description:The crystal structure of the title polymeric complex, [CuCl(2)(C(3)H(6)N(4)O)(2)](n), was obtained by the Rietveld refinement from laboratory X-ray powder diffraction data collected at room temperature. The unique Cu(II) ion lies on an inversion center and is in a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. In the hydroxy-ethyl group, all H atoms, the O atom and its attached C atom are disordered over two positions; the site occupancy factors are ca 0.6 and 0.4. The OH group is involved in an intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond.

The Cu(II) atom exists in a CuNO(4) square-pyramidal geometry that is distorted towards an octa-hedron owing to a long Cu-O(sulfonate) bond [2.636?(2)?Å]. In the crystal, extensive N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds link adjacent mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network.
