N'-[(Z)-4-Methyl-benzyl-idene]-4-nitro-benzohydrazide monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(15)H(13)N(3)O(3)·H(2)O, the two benzene rings form a dihedral angle of 2.03?(2)°. In the crystal structure, adjacent hydrazide mol-ecules are linked into dimers by water mol-ecules; these dimers are then stacked along the b axis. Inter-molecular O-H?O, O-H?N and C-H?O hydrogen bonds and a ?-? stacking inter-action between the nitro-benzene and tolyl rings with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.8208?(3)?Å are observed. There is also a short O?N contact [2.6824?(7)?Å].

The dihedral angle between the two substituted benzene rings is 38.7?(3)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked by O-H?O, O-H?N and N-H?O hydrogen bonds into a two-dimensional network parallel to the (100) plane. The crystal structure is further stabilized by weak C-H?O inter-actions.

Project description:There are two independent formula units in the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(15)H(13)N(3)O(4)·H(2)O. The C=C-N-C torsion angle of the methyl-idenehydrazide group is 174.3?(2)° in one mol-ecule and 178.6?(2)° in the other. The dihedral angles between the two benzene rings in the two mol-ecules are 4.17?(12) and 3.58?(12)°. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O, N-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds link the components into a two-dimensional network and additional stabilization is provided by weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, C(21)H(17)N(3)O(5)·H(2)O, exists in the keto form with an E conformation with respect to the azomethine double bond. The twist angles between the aromatic rings are in the range 4.67?(10)-17.54?(10)°. A water mol-ecule of solvation is present in the lattice. A conventional intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond increases the rigidity of the mol-ecule. Inter-molecular O-H?O, N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions establish a supra-molecular linkage among the mol-ecules in the crystal structure. There are also C-H?? inter-actions present.
