Dichlorido{2-hydroxy-imino-N'-[1-(2-pyrid-yl)ethyl-idene]propanohydrazide-?N,N',O}zinc(II) hemihydrate.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [ZnCl(2)(C(10)H(12)N(4)O(2))]·0.5H(2)O, was readily prepared by the reaction between ZnCl(2) and 2-hydroxy-imino-N'-[1-(2-pyrid-yl)ethyl-idene]propanohydrazide. The Zn atom has a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry with two Cl atoms and one azomethine N atom in the equatorial plane and one pyridine N atom and one amide O atom in the axial positions. In the crystal structure, complex mol-ecules are connected in pairs by N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds, formed between the amide NH of one mol-ecule and the Cl atom of a neighboring one. Mol-ecular pairs are connected by hydrogen bonds involving the uncoordinated water mol-ecule, which lies on a twofold axis.

The central Zn(II) atom has a distorted tetra-gonal-bipyramidal coordination geometry formed by two amide O atoms and four N atoms of two azomethine and two pyridine groups. In the crystal, complex mol-ecules form layers parallel to the crystallographic b direction. The layers are connected by O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the solvent water mol-ecules.

Project description:The title complex, [ZnCl(2)(C(12)H(18)N(2)O)]·0.5H(2)O, is a mononuclear zinc(II) compound derived from the zwitterionic form of the Schiff base 2-[3-(dimethyl-amino)propyl-imino-meth-yl]-phenol. The Zn(II) atom is four-coordinated by the imine N and the phenolate O atoms of the Schiff base ligand, and by two chloride ions, in a distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometry. The dimethyl-ammonio group is disordered over two positions with site occupancies of 0.51?(3) and 0.49?(3). In the asymmetric unit, there is also a disordered water mol-ecule with a partial occupancy of 0.5. In the crystal structure, the water mol-ecules are linked to the Schiff base complex mol-ecules through inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds. Mol-ecules are further linked through additional inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming chains running along the b axis.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [ZnCl(2)(C(11)H(17)N(3))], contains two independent penta-coordinate Zn(II) complex mol-ecules. In each mol-ecule, the metal atom is coordinated by an N,N',N''-tridenate Schiff base and two Cl atoms in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The two mol-ecules differ little in their geometry, but more in their inter-molecular inter-actions. In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are connected via C-H?Cl inter-actions into a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure. The network is supplemented by ?-? inter-actions formed between the aromatic rings of pairs of the symmetry-related mol-ecules [centroid-centroid distances = 3.6255?(10) and 3.7073?(10)?Å]. The crystal lattice contains void spaces with a size of 52?Å(3).
