ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(15)H(20)O(3), crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. In both mol-ecules, the seven-membered ring adopts a chair conformation. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains extending in the [201] direction. The absolute configuration was assigned on the basis of the starting materials.

Project description:Four independent mol-ecules (A-D) comprise the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C15H26O2, which differ only in the relative orientations of the terminal -C(Me)2OH groups [e.g. the range of Cmethyl-ene-Cmethine-Cquaternary-Ohy-droxy torsion angles is 52.7?(7)-57.1?(6)°, where the Cmethyl-ene atom is bound to an epoxide C atom]. The five-membered rings adopt envelope conformations, with the methyl-ene C atom adjacent to the methine C atom being the flap atom in each case. In each mol-ecule, the conformation of the seven-membered ring is a half-chair, with the Cmethyl-ene-Cmethine bond, flanked by methyl-ene C atoms, being the back of the chair. Supra-molecular helical chains along the b axis are found in the crystal packing, sustained by hy-droxy-epoxide O-H?O hydrogen bonding. Mol-ecules of A self-associate into a chain as do those of D. A third independent chain comprising B and C mol-ecules is also formed. The studied crystal is a pseudo-merohedral twin (minor component ca 21%).

The relative stereochemistry at the carboxyl group arises spontaneously during the synthesis. Two inter-molecular C-H⋯O=C close contacts were found, both involving the acid group.

Project description:The title compound, C(16)H(24)O(3), was synthesized from ilicic acid, which was isolated from the aerial part of Inula viscosa- (L) Aiton [or Dittrichia viscosa- (L) Greuter]. The asymmetric unit contains two independent mol-ecules, in each of which the seven-membered ring shows a chair conformation, whereas the five-membered ring presents disorder. In the two molecules, three C atoms in the five-membered ring are disordered over two positions with site-occupancy factors of 0.53/0.47 and 0.83/0.17. The dihedral angle between the two rings is different in the two mol-ecules [31.7?(3) and 47.7?(7)°]. The crystal structure is stabilized by weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen-bond inter-actions.

Project description:The title molecule, C20H23NO7, the product of nucleophilic cleavage of the 3a,6-ep-oxy bridge in 1-oxo-2-phenyl-octa-hydro-3a,6-ep-oxy-iso-indole-7-carboxyl-ate, comprises a cis-fused bicyclic system containing a 2-pyrrolidinone ring in an envelope conformation (with the C atom bearing the carboxyl-ate substituent as the flap) and a cyclo-hexane ring in a chair conformation. The carboxyl-ate substituent occupies the equatorial position, whereas the two acet-yloxy substituents are in axial positions. The N atom has a trigonal-planar geometry, the sum of the bond angles being 359.3?(3)°. The dihedral angle between the mean plane of the four planar atoms of the pyrrolidinone ring and the phenyl ring is 25.98?(6)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into zigzag chains along the c-axis direction by C-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C(14)H(14)O(4), lies on a twofold rotation axis that bis-ects the central benzene ring, with only one half-mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The pyran-one systems adopt distorted twist- boat conformations, with the two methyl-ene C atoms displaced by 0.537 (1) and 0.163 (2) Å from the best-fit plane through the remaining five C and O atoms (r.m.s. deviation = 0.073 Å). In the crystal, bifurcated C-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds link pairs of adjacent mol-ecules in an obverse fashion, stacking mol-ecules along c. These contacts are further stabilized by very weak π-π inter-actions between adjacent benzene rings with centroid-centroid distances of 4.1951 (4) Å. Additional C-H⋯O contacts link these stacks, giving a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C(18)H(20)O(3), is a furan-oid lignan extracted from the leaves of Larrea tridentata. The relative absolute configuration for the four chiral centers was established, showing that this compound is 4-epi-larreatricin, which has been previously reported in the literature. The mol-ecule displays noncrystallographic C(2) symmetry, with the methyl and phenol substituents alternating above and below the mean plane of the furan ring. The conformation of this ring is described by the pseudorotation phase angle P = 171.3° and the maximum out-of-plane pucker ?(m) = 37.7°. These parameters indicate that the furan ring adopts the same conformation as the ribose residues in B-DNA. The packing is dominated by inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The phenol hy-droxy groups form chains in the [110] direction and these chains inter-act via O-H?O(furan) contacts.

The absolute configuration of the title compound was assigned from the synthesis.
