Bis(3-bromo-methyl-2-meth-oxy-1-naphth-yl)methane.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(25)H(22)Br(2)O(2), crystallizes with two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. In each independent mol-ecule, the two naphthalene ring systems are nearly perpendicular to one another, with dihedral angles of 85.6?(1) and 86.2?(1)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by C-H?? inter-actions, and inter- and intra-molecular C-H?O and C-H?Br hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, [Cu2(C9H10NO2)4], is built of discrete centrosymmetric dimers. The Cu(II) atoms are each five coordinated by two deprotonated Schiff base ligands that are bonded differently to the metal atoms. Of the two phenolate O atoms, one is coordinated to one Cu(II) atom, whereas another bridges the two metal atoms. The basal plane of the square pyramid around Cu(II) atoms is formed by the imino N and phenolate O atoms of the bidentate and the monodentate/bidentate Schiff base ligands. The bridging phenolate oxygen occupies the apical position of the coordination sphere with a considerably longer Cu-O bond length. In the crystal, the dimeric mol-ecules pack relative to each other in such a way that the Cu2O2 planes of adjacent dimers are orthogonal.

Project description:In the title compound, C(32)H(28)N(2)·CH(2)Cl(2), the complete Schiff base and solvent molecules are both generated by crystallographic twofold axes, with the two C atoms of the former and the C atom of the latter lying on the rotation axis. The central benzene ring is substituted with two chiral groups including imine functionalities, with the common E configuration. The dihedral angle between the central benzene ring and the terminal naphthalene ring is 45.42 (9)° and that between the two naphthalene rings is 89.16 (8)°. The conformation of the Schiff base allows solvent mol-ecules to fill the voids in the crystal, affording a stable 1:1 solvate, but the solvent inter-acts poorly with the Schiff base, as reflected by its rather high displacement parameters.
