A second monoclinic polymorph of methyl 4-hydroxy-benzoate.

ABSTRACT: A second monoclinic polymorph of methyl 4-hydroxy-benzoate, C(8)H(8)O(3), is reported. The unit-cell dimensions are different from those of the previously reported monoclinic form [Vujovic & Nassimbeni (2006 ?). Cryst. Growth Des.6, 1595-1597]. The asymmetric unit contains three crystallographically independent mol-ecules, as observed in the previous form. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds and C-H?? inter-actions, which link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title compound, C(15)H(15)NO, (I), is a polymorph of the structure (II) reported by Gowda et al. [Acta Cryst. (2008), E64, o1494]. Compound (II) crystalllizes in the space group C2/c (Z = 8), whereas the title compound occurs in space group P2(1)/c (Z = 4). The two mol-ecular structures differ slightly in the relative orientations of their central amide group with respect to the benzoyl ring [dihedral angles of 55.99?(7) for (I) and 59.96?(11)° for (II)] and in the inclination of the benzoyl and aniline rings [88.67?(8) for (I) and 81.44?(5)° for (II)]. In the crystal structure of (I), mol-ecules are linked by N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming C(4) chains, which are augmented by weak C-H?O inter-actions. The structure is further stabilized by C-H?? contacts involving both of the aromatic rings.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title Schiff base compound, C(20)H(18)N(4), contains one half-mol-ecule, lying across a crystallographic inversion centre and adopting an E configuration with respect to the C=N bonds. The imino group is coplanar with the benzene ring with a maximun deviation of 0.096 (1) Å for the N atom. Within the molecule, the planar units are parallel but extend in opposite directions from the methylene bridge. In the crystal structure, neighbouring mol-ecules are linked together by weak inter-molecular C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds involving the cyano N atoms, forming R(2) (2)(10) ring motifs.

A second monoclinic polymorph of 1-benzyl-N-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxamide.

Project description:In the title compound, C(13)H(14)N(2)O, the N(pyrrole)-C(H(2))-C-C torsion angle is -7.7 (3)° and the dihedral angle between the pyrrole and benzene rings is 83.6 (2)°. In the crystal, inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains extending along the c axis. We have previously reported another polymorphic form of this title compound, which has the same space group with different cell parameters: a = 9.8285 (18) Å, b = 23.588 (4) Å, c = 9.9230 (17) Å, β = 90.107 (3)°, Z = 8 and V = 2300.5 (7) Å(3) [Zeng et al. (2010 ▶). Acta Cryst. E66, o2051].

Ethyl (E)-2-cyano-3-(4-methyl-phen-yl)acrylate: a second monoclinic polymorph.

Project description:The title compound, C13H13NO2, was previously described in space group P21/c by He et al. [Acta Cryst. (1993), C49, 2000-2002]. The ethyl group is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.615?(10):0.385?(10) ratio. The C-O-C-C torsion angles containing the ethyl group are -111.6?(10) and 177.9?(7)°, while in the previously reported polymorph, the torsion angle is -167.3?(2)°. The molecules pack to form a three-dimensional structure in the ABAB style along the c-axis direction in the title compound, but parallel to the a-axis direction in the reported polymorph.

A second monoclinic polymorph of 2-(diformyl-methyl-idene)-3,3-dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(13)H(13)NO(2), is a polymorph of the structure first reported by Helliwell et al. [Acta Cryst. (2006), E62, o737-o738]. It is also monoclinic (space group P2(1)/c), but with completely different cell constants. The mol-ecular conformations of these polymorphs differ by a 180° rotation of one formyl group. The present mol-ecule is planar [maximum deviation 0.089?(2)?Å] with the exception of the two methyl groups which lie on either side of the plane. There are strong intra- and inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The latter link pairs of mol-ecules across crystallographic centers of symmetry. Two aldehyde O atoms are brought close together [2.896?(4)?Å in this arrangement but are not hydrogen bonded. In the earlier polymorph, one formyl group is rotated by 180° to yield inter-molecular hydrogen bonding and an infinite polymeric chain. The other formyl group is involved in the same intra-molecular hydrogen bonding as has been found here.

Crystal structure of a new monoclinic polymorph of 2,4-di-hydroxy-benzaldehyde 4-methyl-thio-semi-carbazone.

Project description:The title compound, C9H11N3O2S, is a second monoclinic (P21/c) polymorph of the previously reported Cc form [Tan et al. (2008b ▶). Acta Cryst. E64, o2224]. The mol-ecule is non-planar, with the dihedral angle between the N3CS residue (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0816 Å) and the benzene ring being 21.36 (4)°. The conformation about the C=N bond [1.292 (2) Å] is E, the two N-bound H atoms are anti, and the inner hy-droxy O-bound and outer amide N-bound H atoms form intra-molecular hydrogen bonds to the imine N atom. Crucially, the H atom of the outer hy-droxy group is approximately syn to the H atom of the benzene C atom connecting the two C atoms bearing the hy-droxy substituents. This arrangement enables the formation of supra-molecular tubes aligned along [010] and sustained by N-H⋯O, O-H⋯S and N-H⋯S hydrogen bonds; the tubes pack with no specific inter-actions between them. While the mol-ecular structure in the Cc form is comparable, the H atom of the outer hy-droxy group is approximately anti, rather than syn. This different orientation leads to the formation a three-dimensional architecture based on N-H⋯O and O-H⋯S hydrogen bonds.

Project description:A second monoclinic polymorph of 2,4-dimethyl-anilinium chloride, C(8)H(12)N(+)·Cl(-), (I), is reported. The unit-cell dimensions differ from those of the first reported monoclinic form, (II) [Yao (2010 ▶). Acta Cryst. E66, o1563]. Nevertheless, both compounds crystallize in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n. As in (II), the protonated amine group in (I) acts as a hydrogen-bond donor to the chloride ion, forming three N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. The result is a two-dimensional network in the ac plane. The difference in the hydrogen-bond pattern is that in (I) only 12-membered rings are formed whereas in (II), eight-membered and 16-membered rings are formed.

Project description:The title compound, C(27)H(45)Cl, is a second monoclinic polymorph which crystallizes in the space group P2(1) with four crystallographically independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The structure was previously reported [Bernal et al. (1940 ?). Philos. Trans. R. Soc. London Ser. B, 239, 135-182; Vani & Vijayan (1979 ?). Mol. Cryst. Liq. Cryst.51, 253-264], also in the space group P2(1), but with two unique mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. As in the previously reported structures, rings A and C in the mol-ecule adopt chair conformations with half-chair conformations for rings B and D. The ring junctions B-C and C-D are trans, whereas the junction A-B is quasi-trans. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are arranged in a head-to-tail fashion along a and are stacked along the b axis.

The structure was previously reported [Clews & Cochran (1948 ▶). Acta Cryst. 1, 4-11] in the space group P21/a. There are two crystallographically independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit and each mol-ecule is planar. The dihedral angle between the two pyrimidine rings is 30.71 (12)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked via N-H⋯N inter-molecular hydrogen bonds, forming infinite one-dimensional chains along the a axis. These hydrogen bonds generate R(2) (2)(8) ring motifs. The chains are stacked along the b axis.

Project description:The two aromatic rings in the title compound, C(10)H(9)N(3), are aligned at 23.4 (1)° and the bridging C-N-C angle is 128.9 (1)°. In the crystal structure, intermolecular N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds result in a chain motif, the repeat distance of which is half the b axial length of 8.8851 (3) Å.
