Poly[disodium [diaqua-tri-μ(2)-oxalato-dimagnesium(II)]].

ABSTRACT: The title compound, {Na(2)[Mg(2)(C(2)O(4))(3)(H(2)O)(2)]}(n), is isotypic with its Co analogue. There are two crystallographically independent oxalate groups in the asymmetric unit, one lying on an inversion center and the other on a general position. Mg(2+) ions are ligated by H(2)O mol-ecules and bridged by tri- and tetra-dentate oxalate ligands, forming ladder-like double chains that are held together via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, with Na(+) cations located between the chains to balance the charge.

The carboxyl-ate groups of pyrazine-2-carboxyl-ate and oxalate ligands link the lanthanum metal centres, forming layers parallel to (10). The layers are further connected by inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Project description:In the structure of the title compound, [Co(4)(C(2)O(4))(PO(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](n), there are layers composed of the phosphate anions and two independent Co(II) cations. These layers are parallel to (001) and are bridged by the oxalate anions that are situated in special positions on centres of symmetry. One independent Co atom has an octa-hedral coordination, while the second independent Co atom is coordinated in a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination that includes the water mol-ecule. The crystal packing is stabilized by O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water mol-ecules and oxalate O atoms.

Project description:The title compound, [Zn(3)(C(6)H(5)O(7))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](n), is a polymer in which the repeating unit contains three zinc atoms, two hepta-dentate Hcit ligands (Hcit = citric acid trianion) and two coordinated water mol-ecules, only half of which are independent due to one of the metal atoms lying on a centre of symmetry. The two independent cations both exhibit an octa-hedral geometry, but the way in which they are coordinate are different; while the Zn atom in a general position is bound to three Hcit ligands and one water mol-ecule, the one at the centre of symmetry is coordinated by six O atoms from two symmetry-related Hcit ligands through the (protonated) hydroxyl and carboxyl-ate groups. The three carboxyl-ate groups coordinate to the Zn centres in three different ways, viz. chelating, bridging and a mixture of both, in an unusual coordination mode for citrate. The result is a two-dimensional structure parallel to (010), built up by a square-grid motif. Intermolecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are present in the crystal structure.

The organic cation has an inversion center at the mid-point of the ethane C-C bond. In the anion, the Pb(II) atom is coordinated by six I atoms in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The I atoms bridge the Pb(II) atoms into a polymeric chain running along [001]. These inorganic chains are separated by the isolated organic cations.

In the crystal, the l-tartrate ligands link the Zn(II) atoms, forming a two-dimensional coordination layer; these layers are futher linked into a three-dimensional supra-molecular network by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the two-dimensional coordin-ation layers and the uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The latter are equally disordered over two positions.
