A new monoclinic polymorph of dichlorido-tetra-kis(dimethyl sulfoxide)-ruthenium(II).

ABSTRACT: The title compound, cis,fac-dichloridotetra-kis(dimethyl sulfoxide)-κ(3)S,κO-ruthenium(II), [RuCl(2)(C(2)H(6)OS)(4)], was obtained from newly synthesized ruthenium complexes of 3-amino-2-chloro-pyridine. The Ru atom has a distorted octa-hedral coordination with two cis-oriented chloride ligands and four dimethyl sulfoxide ligands. Three of the sulfoxide ligands are S-bonded in a fac configuration, while the fourth is O-bonded. The title compound represents a new, and fourth, polymorph of the complex. Two other monoclinic forms and an ortho-rhom-bic modification have been reported previously.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, [CrCl2(C2H6OS)4]Cl·C2H6OS, consists of a Cr(III) ion coordinated by four O atoms of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) ligands and two chloride ions in cis positions, forming a distorted CrCl2O4 octa-hedron. An isolated Cl(-) counter-anion and a positionally disordered DMSO mol-ecule [occupancy ratio 0.654 (4):0.346 (4)] are also present. In the structure, the complex cations inter-act with the Cl(-) counter-anions and the DMSO solvent mol-ecules via weak C-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯O inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The structure of the dinuclear title complex, [Cu(2)(C(5)H(9)O(2))(4)(C(5)H(5)N)(2)], represents a monoclinic polymorph of the previously reported triclinic form [Blewett et al. (2006 ▶). Acta Cryst. E62, m420-m422]. Each carboxyl-ate group is bidentate bridging and the distorted octa-hedral geometry about each Cu(II) atom is completed by a pyridine N atom and the other Cu atom [Cu⋯Cu = 2.6139 (7) Å]. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected into supra-molecular chains via π-π inter-actions formed by the pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.552 (3) Å] and these are connected into a two-dimensional array in the ac plane by C-H⋯π contacts. One of the tert-butyl groups is disordered over two orientations in a 0.734 (6):0.266 (6) ratio.

The bond lengths and angles of the N-Pt-Cl functionality are typical for imine dichloridoplatinum(II) complexes. Project description:The title salt, [Mn(C2H6OS)6]I4, is made up from discrete [Mn(DMSO)6]2+ (DMSO is dimethyl sulfoxide) units connected through non-classical hydrogen bonds to linear I42- tetra-iodide anions. The MnII ion in the cation, situated on a position with site symmetry -3., is octa-hedrally coordinated by O atoms of the DMSO mol-ecule with an Mn-O distance of 2.1808 (12) Å. The I42- anion contains a neutral I2 mol-ecule weakly coordinated by two iodide ions, forming a linear centrosymmetric tetra-iodide anion. The title compound is isotypic with the Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn analogues.

Monoclinic polymorph of chlorido-(dimethyl sulfoxide-κ<i>O</i>)tri-phenyl-tin(IV).

Project description:The crystal structure of the title tin complex, [Sn(C6H5)3Cl(C2H6OS)], (I), has been reported with one mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit in an ortho-rhom-bic cell [Kumar et al. (2009 ▸). Acta Cryst. E65, m1602-m1603]. While using SnPh3Cl as a starting material for a reaction for which the products were recrystallized over a very long time (six months) from dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), a new polymorph was obtained for (I), with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit of a monoclinic cell. The coordination geometry of the Sn centres remains unchanged, with the Cl- ion and the DMSO mol-ecule in the apical positions and the phenyl C atoms in the equatorial positions of a trigonal bipyramid. The main difference between the polymorphs is the relative orientation of the phenyl rings in the equatorial plane, reflecting a degree of free rotation of these groups about their Sn-C bonds. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into [010] chains mediated by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions.

Project description:The title compound, [Cu(C2H6OS)4(C10H8N2)](ClO4)2, contains a Cu(II) ion with a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment, bonded by four O atoms of the monodentate dimethyl sulfoxide ligands and two N atoms of the bidentate chelating 2,2'-bi-pyridine ligand. The equatorial Cu-N and Cu-O bond lengths are in the range 1.979 (2)-1.998 (3) Å. The axial Cu-O bond distances are 2.365 (2) and 2.394 (2) Å. In the crystal, the complex cations and perchlorate anions are connected by numerous C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, which leads to additional stabilization of the structure. The perchlorate anion is disordered over two sets of sites with a 0.716 (3):0.284 (3) occupancy ratio.

Project description:The title compound, [Zn{(CH3)2SO}6]I4, is a one-dimensional supra-molecular polymer along a threefold rotation axis of the space group. It is built up from discrete [Zn{(CH3)2SO}6](2+) units connected through non-classical hydrogen bonds to linear I4 (2-) polyiodide anions (C-H⋯I = 3.168 Å). The Zn(II) ion in the cation has an octa-hedral coordination geometry, with all six Zn-O bond lengths being equivalent, at 2.111 (4) Å. The linear polyiodide anion contains a neutral I2 mol-ecule weakly coordinated to two iodide ions.
