ABSTRACT: The conformation of the C=O bond in the title compound, C(14)H(11)ClO(2), is anti to the Cl atom, similar to what was observed in 2-methyl-phenyl 4-methyl-benzoate. The dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings is 59.36 (7)°.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound 3CP4MBA, C(14)H(11)ClO(2), resembles those of 3-methyl-phenyl 4-methyl-benzoate (3MP4MBA), 4-methyl-phenyl 4-methyl-benzoate (4MP4MBA), 4-methyl-phenyl 4-chloro-benzoate (4CP4MBA) and other aryl benzoates with similar bond parameters. The two aromatic rings make a dihedral angle of 76.0 (1)°. The plane of the central -C(=O)-O- group is twisted by 9.4 (2)° out of the plane of the benzoyl ring, and by 83.3 (1)° out of the plane of the phenyl ring. Project description:In the title compound, C20H13ClO3, the dihedral angles between the benzoate and the chloro-benzene and benzoyl rings are 68.82 (5) and 53.76 (6)°, respectively, while the dihedral angle between the benzoyl and benzoate rings is 81.17 (5)°. The eight atoms of the benzoyl residue are essentially planar with the exception of the O atom which lies 0.1860 (5) Å out of their mean plane (r.m.s. deviation = 0.97 Å). The nine atoms of benzoate residue are also essentially planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.20 Å) with the ester O atom showing the greatest deviation [0.407 (12) Å] from their mean plane. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected into centrosymmetric dimers by pairs of C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title benzoate derivative, C13H6ClN3O8, the planes of the benzene rings form a dihedral angle of 63.46 (5)°. The dihedral angles between the benzene ring and its nitro groups are 12.78 (16)° for the first ortho, 28.4 (4) and 17.4 (4)° for the second (disordered) ortho and 3.58 (16)° for the para nitro group. The central ester moiety, -C-(C=O)-O-, is essentially planar (r.m.s. deviation for all non-H atoms = 0.0229 Å) and forms dihedral angles of 7.37 (14)° with the chloro-substituted benzene ring and 69.85 (6)° with the trinitro-substituted benzene ring. One of the nitro groups was refined as disordered over two sets of sites with fixed site occupancies of 0.61 and 0.39. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network.
