ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(17)H(16)ClNO, contains two crystallographically independent mol-ecules. These mol-ecules are connected in an alternating fashion through N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds, generating one-dimensional chains of graph sets R(2) (1)(6) and C(4) along the a axis.

Project description:In the title compound, C(18)H(17)N(3)O, the dihedral angle between the phenyl and benzene rings is 11.22?(14)°. Apart from the methyl H atoms, the mol-ecule is close to planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.145?(3)?Å. Intra-molecular C-H?O and C-H?N inter-actions occur. In the crystal, inversion dimers linked by pairs of N-H?N hydrogen bonds occur, resulting in an R(2) (2)(12) ring motif. Further C-H?N and C-H?O bonds generate R(1) (2)(7) and R(2) (2)(22) motifs and a C-H?? inter-action also occurs.

Project description:In the title thio-semicarbazone compound, C18H18ClN3S, the CN3S residue is almost planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0031 Å) and forms dihedral angles of 65.99 (7) and 34.60 (10)° with the phenyl and chloro-benzene rings, respectively; the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 85.13 (8)°. The conformation about the C=N bond is Z, and that about the C=C bonds is E. The imine N and ethyl N atoms are syn and are linked by an eth-yl-imine N-H⋯N hydrogen bond. This H atom also forms an inter-molecular hydrogen bond to the thione S atom, resulting in a supra-molecular helical chain propagating along the b axis. The chains are consolidated into a three-dimensional architecture by phenyl-C-H⋯Cl contacts and weak π-π inter-actions between centrosymmetrically related chloro-benzene rings [inter-centroid distance = 3.9127 (15) Å].

The most significant twist occurs about the ethene bond [C-C=C-C = 164.1 (5)°] and the dihedral angle formed between the benzene rings is 5.3 (2)°]. In the crystal, the presence of N-H⋯O(w) and O-H⋯O(c) (× 2; w = water and c = carbon-yl) hydrogen bonds leads to a supra-molecular array in the bc plane.
