Little knowledge exists about the mechanisms by which estrogen can impede chemotherapy-induced cell death of breast cancer cells. 17beta-Estradiol (E(2)) hinders cytotoxic drug-induced cell death in estrogen receptor-positive (ER(+)) breast cancer cells.
