ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [La(2)(C(10)H(10)NO(3))(2)(NO(3))(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(4)], each La(III) ion is ten-coordinated by four N atoms from two bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and by six O atoms, two from the N-acetyl-N-phenyl-glycinate ligands and four from two nitrate anions. Two La(III) cations, which exhibit a distorted bicapped square-anti-prismatic coordination, are bridged by two N-acetyl-N-phenyl-glycinate ligands into a dimeric structure, generated by inversion symmetry. There is a ?-? contact between the benzene rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.409?(3)?Å].

These polymeric chains generate microchannels extending along [100], and these cavities are occupied by discrete tetra-deca-meric water clusters, which inter-act with their surroundings and finally furnish the three-dimensional supra-molecular network via 15 O-H?O, one O-H?S, two O-H?N and six N-H?O classical hydrogen bonds. 4,4-Bipyridine acts as an inserting component and hydrogen-bond acceptor, and it is a nonplanar mol-ecule with a dihedral angle of 33.12?(13)° between the pyridine rings. Owing to the numerous classical hydrogen bonds, the observed weak inter-molecular C-H?O, C-H?? and ?-? stacking inter-actions can be neglected with regard to stabilizing the network.

Project description:In the title compound, [La(C(7)H(5)O(4))(3)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)(H(2)O)(2)]·C(12)H(8)N(2), the La(III) atom is coordinated by four N atoms from two chelating 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands, four O atoms from three 2,6-dihy-droxy-benzoate (DHB) anions (one monodentate, the other bidentate) and two water O atoms, completing a distorted LaN(4)O(6) bicapped square-anti-prismatic geometry. Within the mononuclear complex mol-ecule, intra-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions are observed, the first between a coordinated phen mol-ecule and a DHB ligand [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7291?(16)?Å], and the second between a coordinated phen mol-ecule and an uncoordinated phen ligand [centroid-centroid distance = 3.933?(2)?Å]. Inter-molecular ?-? stacking is observed between adjacent complexes [inter-planar distance = 3.461?(3)?Å]. Intra- and inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed in the DHB ligands and between a water mol-ecule and DHB ligands, respectively. O-H?N hydrogen bonds are also observed in the DHB ligands and between uncoordinated phen mol-ecules and aqua ligands.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of [La(C20H21N3O3PS)3(C12H8N2)] is created by one LaIII ion, three deprotonated N-{bis-[meth-yl(phen-yl)amino]-phosphor-yl}benzene-sulfonamidate (L-) ligands and one 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) mol-ecule. Each LaIII ion is eight-coordinated (6O+2N) by three phosphoryl O atoms, three sulfonyl O atoms of three L- ligands and two N atoms of the chelating Phen ligand, leading to the formation of six- and five-membered metallacycles, respectively. The lanthanum coordination polyhedron has a bicapped trigonal-prismatic geometry. 'Sandwich-like' intra-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions are observed between the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and two benzene rings of two different L- ligands. The phenyl rings of L- that are not involved in the stacking inter-actions show minor positional disorder. Mol-ecules form layers parallel to the (010) plane due to weak C-H?O inter-molecular hydrogen bonds. Unidentified highly disordered solvate mol-ecules that occupy ca 400?Å3 large voids have been omitted from the refinement model.

The six crystallographically independent uncoordinated water mol-ecules are inter-connected by hydrogen bonds, completing dodeca-water (H(2)O)(12) clusters which are hydrogen bonded to the carboxyl-ate groups of phenyl-acetate anions, building up one-dimensional anionic chains propagating along [100]. Between the cationic and anionic chains are hydrogen bonds from water mol-ecules to the carboxyl-ate O atoms belonging to the phenyl-acetato ligands.

The Y(III) ions are bridged by glutarate ligands in three modes, forming a layered, polymeric structure. The environment around the Ho atom can be described as a distorted bicapped square anti-prism. Two phenanthroline ligands form a dihedral angle of 43.72 (13)°. Short inter-molecular distances between the centroids of the six-membered rings [3.6887 (14)-3.8374 (16) Å] indicate the existence of π-π inter-actions, which link the mol-ecules into stacks extended in the [10] direction. The crystal packing is further stabilized by weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
