N'-(2-Hydr-oxy-3-methoxy-benzyl-idene)-1,3-benzodioxole-5-carbohydrazide monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: Single crystals of the title compound, C(16)H(14)N(2)O(5)·H(2)O, were obtained from a condensation reaction of 1,3-benzodioxole-5-carbohydrazide and 3-methoxy-salicylaldehyde in a 95% ethanol solution. The asymmetric unit consists of a Schiff base mol-ecule, which assumes an E configuration with respect to the C=N bond, and a water mol-ecule of crystallization. The dihedral angle between the two substituted benzene rings is 12.7 (2)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming layers parallel to the bc plane.

Project description:In the title compound, C(10)H(12)N(2)O(3)·H(2)O, the Schiff base mol-ecule is approximately planar [within 0.189?(1)?Å]. The inter-planar angle between the benzene and acetohydrazide planes is 8.50?(10)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional network by strong and weak O-H?O and strong N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The hydr-oxy H atom deviates from the 4-hydr-oxy-3-methoxy-phenyl mean plane by 0.319?(2)?Å, probably due to the involvement of this H atom in the O-H?O hydrogen bond. The weak O-H?O hydrogen bond is involved in a bifurcated hydrogen bond with R(1) (2)(4) motif. A weak C-H?? inter-action is also present.

Project description:The Schiff base mol-ecule of the title compound, C(15)H(14)N(2)O(4)·H(2)O, adopts a trans configuration with respect to the C=N double bond; the Schiff base itself is almost planar (r.m.s. deviation for all non-H atoms = 0.040 Å). The amido N atom is the hydrogen-bond donor to the water mol-ecule, which is the hydrogen-bond donor to the hydr-oxy groups of two neighboring mol-ecules. One of the hydroxyl groups acts as an intra-molecular and the other as an inter-molecular hydrogen-bond donor.
