(3aR,8aR)-2,2,6,6-Tetra-methyl-4,4,8,8-tetra-phenyl-tetra-hydro-1,3-dioxolo[4,5-e][1,3,2]dioxasilepine.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(33)H(34)O(4)Si, is a dioxasilepine compound, an effective chiral dopant for the determination of high helical twisting powers in liquid crystals. Its structure consists of a five-membered dioxolo ring fused to a seven-membered dioxasilepine ring which contains two sets of phenyl rings in a twisted butterfly shape attached to the two Csp(3) atoms in the ring opposite each other. Two methyl groups are attached to the Si atom in the ring and two additional methyl groups are attached to the Csp(3) atom in the dioxolo ring (one of which is disordered) and which lies in an envelope pattern. The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the phenyl ring pairs are 85.9?(2) and 83.5?(1)°. The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the dioxolo ring and the two pairs of butterfly shaped phenyl rings are 46.2?(1), 67.7?(1), 35.6?(7) and 83.5?(1)°.

Project description:The title natural compound, isolated from Narcissus pseudonarcissus var. King Alfred crystallizes as a hemihydrate, C14H13NO7·0.5H2O, with four crystallographically independent dioxolophenanthridinone mol-ecules and two crystallographically independent solvent water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. All four crystallographically independent dioxolophenanthridinone mol-ecules are geometrically very similar and differ only in the orientations of the three hy-droxy groups at the terminal cyclo-hexene rings. The five-membered dioxolane ring has a planar conformation (the r.m.s. deviations are 0.010, 0.019, 0.025 and 0.004?Å, for the four crystallographically independent molecules), and the six-membered dihydro-pyridone and cyclo-hexene rings adopt sofa conformations in each mol-ecule. The flattened structure of each dioxolophenanthridinone mol-ecule is supported by a strong intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond. The N atom has a slightly pyramidalized configuration. In the crystal, the dioxolophenanthridinone mol-ecules form layers parallel to (101) with O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds linking the dioxolophenanthridinone mol-ecules both within and between the layers and the water mol-ecules, forming a three-dimensional framework. The absolute configurations of the chiral centers are 2S, 3R, 4S and 4aR.

Project description:In the title mol-ecule, C30H35NO8, the ace-naphthyl-enone moiety, two atoms of a methyl pyrrolidine ring (N and C atoms) and four atoms of an ethyl acetate moiety (two C and two O atoms) are disordered over two sets of sites in ratio 0.532?(7):0.468?(7). The three C atoms of a di-meth-oxy-ethane ring and dioxolane ring attached with two methyl groups are disordered over two sets of sites in 0.66?(2):0.34?(2) and 0.62?(2):0.38?(2) ratios, respectively. The major and minor components of the ace-naphthyl-ene ring are essentially planar (r.m.s. deviations = 0.0254 and 0.0436?Å, respectively). The major and minor components of the pyrrolidine ring adopt C-envelope conformations with C atoms displaced by 0.492?(11) and 0.595?(7)?Å from the remaining ring atoms. One of the dioxolane rings is disordered with its major component in an envelope conformation [C displaced by 0.511?(11)?Å] and the minor fraction is more or less planar with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.070?Å. The other dioxolane ring is in an envelope conformation, with a C atom displaced by 0.438?(3)?Å from the remainder of the ring atoms. The major fraction of the disordered pyrrolidine ring exhibits an envelope conformation while the minor component is essentially planar [maximum deviation = 0.037?(12)?Å]. The other pyrrolidine ring also adopts an envelope conformation. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the two wings of the pyrrolidine ring is 30.6?(2)°. The C-O bond length of 1.3098 (19) Å shows that double-bond character and charge delocalization occurs within the NCO plane of the cation.
