ABSTRACT: In title complex, [Co(C(28)H(22)N(2)O(2))(C(5)H(5)N)(2)]ClO(4)·1.5H(2)O, the Co(III) ion is in a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination environment with the pyridine ligands in a trans arrangement. In addition to the cation and anion, the asymmetric unit also contains three half-occupancy solvent water mol-ecules and all components are connected via inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Mn(C(18)H(18)N(2)O(4))(CH(3)OH)(H(2)O)]ClO(4)·0.5H(2)O, contains two complex cations and two perchlorate anions, one of which is disordered over two positions in a 0.767?(8):0.233?(8) ratio. The Mn(III) atoms are in distorted octa-hedral environments. In addition to the equatorial tetra-dentate salicylaldimine ligand, each Mn is axially coordinated by both a methanol and a water mol-ecule. The complex is a dimer held together by multiple strong and weak hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the coordinated water mol-ecule on one monomer with all the phenolic and meth-oxy O atoms on the other monomer. In addition, the two perchlorate anions are linked by hydrogen bonds to the two methanol mol-ecules coordinated to each Mn center. The Mn-O phenolic bond distances range from 1.868?(2) to 1.882?(2)?Å while the Mn-N distances range from 1.978?(2) to 1.981?(2)?Å. Mn-O distances for the axial water and methanol ligands are longer at 2.226?(2)/2.257?(2) and 2.313?(2)/2.324?(2)?Å, reflecting the usual Jahn-Teller distortion as found in Mn(III) complexes.

When a secondary Ni-O inter-action > 2.41 Å to the neighbouring phenolate O atom is considered, two mol-ecules are linked into a centrosymmetric dimer with an overall square-pyramidal coordination for the Ni(II) cation. Weak π-π inter-actions with a shortest interplanar distance of 3.704 Å help to stabilize the crystal structure.

Project description:The title compound, (C(2)H(10)N(2))[Ni(C(16)H(14)N(2)O(2))](4)(ClO(4))(2)·C(3)H(7)NO, crystallizes with four Ni(salen) mol-ecules {salen is 2,2'-[ethane-1,2-diylbis(nitrilo-methyl-idyne)]diphenolate}, one ethyl-enediammonium cation (actually two half-cations, each located on a center of inversion), two perchlorate anions and one dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. Each Ni(II) cation in the Ni(salen) complex is four-coordinated by two imine N atoms and two phenolate O atoms from the tetra-dentate ligand. The Ni(salen) units form parallel slipped stacks with Ni?Ni separations of 3.4541?(4) and 3.6442?(6)?Å. The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular hydrogen bonds between the ammonium H atoms and the perchlorate and salen O atoms, which generate a three-dimensional structure.

The -CH(2)-CH(2)- group of the ligand is disordered equally over two sites about the mirror plane. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the two symmetry-related chelate rings is 37.16?(6)°. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link complex mol-ecules into one-dimensional chains along [100] and these chains are linked, in turn, by very weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds into a two-dimensional network.

Project description:The title compound, [Mn(C(16)H(14)N(2)O(2))(C(7)H(4)NO(4))(H(2)O)], is a Jahn-Teller-distorted manganese(III) monomer with an octa-hedral geometry. The tetra-dentate Schiff base accommodates the Mn(III) ion at the centre of a nearly planar square. The axial positions are occupied by a monodentate carboxyl-ate group and a water mol-ecule. Adjacent monomers inter-act through hydrogen bonding between the noncoordinated C=O group of the carboxyl-ate and the coordinated water mol-ecule to produce chains extending parallel to the b axis.

All the atoms of the meth-oxy substitutents are in the plane of the ring to which they are attached except for one which deviates slightly [0.365?(3)?Å]. In the crystal, weak C-H?O inter-molecular inter-actions connect the mol-ecules.
