Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, (C(7)H(10)N)(2)[ZnBr(4)], the coordination geometry of the anion is approximately tetra-hedral and a twofold rotation axis passes through the Zn atom. The Zn-Br bond lengths range from 2.400 (2) to 2.408 (3) Å and the Br-Zn-Br angles range from 108.14 (6) to 115.15 (15)°. In the crystal structure, the [ZnBr(4)](2-) anion is connected to two cations through N-H⋯Br and H(2)C-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds, forming two-dimensional cation-anion-cation layers normal to the b axis. No significant Br⋯Br inter-actions [the shortest being 4.423 (4) Å] are observed in the structure.

Crystal structure of bis-(4-acetyl-anilinium) tetra-chlorido-mercurate(II).

Project description:The structure of the title salt, (C8H10NO)2[HgCl4], is isotypic with that of the cuprate(II) and cobaltate(II) analogues. The asymmetric unit contains one 4-acetyl-anilinium cation and one half of a tetra-chlorido-mercurate(II) anion (point group symmetry m). The Hg-Cl distances are in the range 2.4308 (7)-2.5244 (11) Å and the Cl-Hg-Cl angles in the range of 104.66 (2)-122.94 (4)°, indicating a considerable distortion of the tetra-hedral anion. In the crystal, cations are linked by an inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-action, leading to a C(8) chain motif with the chains extending parallel to the b axis. There is also a π-π stacking inter-action with a centroid-to-centroid distance of 3.735 (2) Å between neighbouring benzene rings along this direction. The anions lie between the chains and inter-act with the cations through inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional network structure.

Project description:The structure of the title salt, (C8H10NO)2[CoCl4], is isotypic with the analogous cuprate(II) structure. The asymmetric unit contains one 4-acetyl-anilinium cation and one half of a tetra-chlorido-cobaltate(II) anion for which the Co(II) atom and two Cl(-) ligands lie on a mirror plane. The Co-Cl distances in the distorted tetra-hedral anion range from 2.2519 (6) to 2.2954 (9) Å and the Cl-Co-Cl angles range from 106.53 (2) to 110.81 (4)°. In the crystal, cations are self-assembled by inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, leading to a C(8) chain motif with the chains running parallel to the b axis. π-π stacking inter-actions between benzene rings, with a centroid-to-centroid distance of 3.709 Å, are also observed along this direction. The CoCl4 (2-) anions are sandwiched between the cationic chains and inter-act with each other through inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional network structure.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, (C(10)H(10)N(3))(2)[ZnCl(4)], is composed of C(10)H(9)N(3)H(+) (DPAH(+)) cations and [ZnCl(4)](2-) anions. The two pyridyl rings of DPAH(+) are approximately coplanar, with a dihedral angle of 7.2?(2)° between their corresponding least-squares planes. The proton is disordered in a one-to-one ratio over the two chemically equivalent pyridyl N atoms. An intra-molecular hydrogen bond is formed between the pyridinium H atom and the pyridyl N atom of the other pyridyl ring. The Zn atom lies on a twofold rotation axis. There are also some weak N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds. These inter-actions lead to the formation of an alternating zigzag chain in the solid state. The results clearly show that reducing agents normally used in hydro-thermal syntheses, such as metallic zinc employed here, are also active in terms of coordination chemistry.
