ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(16)H(18)N(2)O(2)S, was obtained as an unexpected product while attempting to form carbon-nitro-gen bonds by catalytic amidation. The mol-ecule displays an E conformation about the C=N double bond. The planes of the two aromatic rings in the mol-ecule form a dihedral angle of 47.06?(9)°.

In the crystalline state, the mol-ecules are linked into a two-dimensional network parallel to the ab plane by C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π inter-actions.

Project description:The structure of the title salt (systematic name: oxodiphenyl-λ5-iodanylium 4-methyl-benzene-sulfonate dihydrate), C12H10IO+·C7H7O3S-·2H2O, at 150 K, has monoclinic (P21/c) symmetry. The mol-ecular structure features an angular (phenyl-iodos-yl)benzene cation, the geometry of which was hitherto undescribed in the literature: in the cation, both I-C bonds are approximately normal to the I=O bond, forming a C-I-C angle of 95.36 (4)°. The crystal structure displays O-H⋯O, O-H⋯I and O-H⋯S hydrogen bonding.

Project description:In the title compound, C(22)H(19)NO(5)S, the carbazole skeleton is nearly planar [maximum deviation = 0.043?(1)?Å] with the pyrrole ring oriented at dihedral angles of 2.32?(6) and 1.77?(6)° with respect to the adjacent benzene rings. The dihedral angle between the benzene ring of the tosyl group and the carbazole skeleton is 82.25?(5)°. Intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonding results in the formation of a planar six-membered ring, which is oriented at a dihedral angle of 3.06?(4)° with respect to the adjacent carbazole skeleton. In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions link the mol-ecules into infinite chains and ?-? contacts between the benzene rings and between the pyrrole and benzene rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.374?(1) and 3.730?(1)?Å, respectively] may further stabilize the structure. A weak C-H?? inter-action is also present.

Project description:In the title N-tosyl-acryl-amide compounds, C20H17NO4S, (I), and C23H21NO3S, (II), the conformation about the C=C bond is E. The acryl-amide groups, [-NH-C(=O)-C=C-], are almost planar, with the N-C-C=C torsion angle being -170.18?(14)° in (I) and -168.01?(17)° in (II). In (I), the furan, phenyl and 4-methyl-benzene rings are inclined to the acryl-amide mean plane by 26.47?(11), 69.01?(8) and 82.49?(9)°, respectively. In (II), the phenyl, 3-methyl-benzene and 4-methyl-benzene rings are inclined to the acryl-amide mean plane by 11.61?(10), 78.44?(10) and 78.24?(10)°, respectively. There is an intra-molecular C-H?? inter-action present in compound (II). In the crystals of both compounds, mol-ecules are linked by pairs of N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers with an R 2 (2)(8) ring motif. In (I), the dimers are reinforced by C-H?O hydrogen bonds and linked by C-H?? inter-actions, forming chains along [011]. In the crystal of (II), the dimers are linked via C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along [100]. The chains are further linked by C-H?? inter-actions, forming layers parallel to (010).
