RbCa(2)Nb(3)O(10) from X-ray powder data.

ABSTRACT: Rubidium dicalcium triniobate(V), RbCa(2)Nb(3)O(10), has been synthesized by solid-state reaction and its crystal structure refined from X-ray powder diffraction data using Rietveld analysis. The compound is a three-layer perovskite Dion-Jacobson phase with the perovskite-like slabs derived by termination of the three-dimensional CaNbO(3) perovskite structure along the ab plane. The rubidium ions (4/mmm symmetry) are located in the inter-stitial space.

Project description:Lithium calcium niobium oxide (2/1.5/3/10), Li(2)Ca(1.5)Nb(3)O(10), has been synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. Its structure consists of triple-layer perovskite slabs of corner-sharing NbO(6) octa-hedra inter-leaved with lithium ions; Ca cations partially occupy the perovskite A sites at 75% occupancy probability. All eight atoms in the asymmetric unit are on special positions: one Nb atom has site symmetry 4/mmm; the second Nb, both K, the Sr and two O atoms have site symmetry 4mm; the remaining two O atoms have site symmetries 2mm. and mmm., respectively.

Project description:In the title compound [systematic name 5-de-oxy-5-fluoro-N-(pent-yloxycarbon-yl)cytidine], C(15)H(22)FN(3)O(6), the pentyl chain is disordered over two positions with refined occupancies of 0.53?(5) and 0.47?(5). The furan ring assumes an envelope conformation. In the crystal, inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains propagating along the b axis. The crystal packing exhibits electrostatic inter-actions between the 5-fluoro-pyrimidin-2(1H)-one fragments of neighbouring mol-ecules as indicated by short O?C [2.875?(3) and 2.961?(3)?Å] and F?C [2.886?(3)?Å] contacts.

Sr-fresnoite determined from synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction data.

Project description:The fresnoite-type compound Sr2TiO(Si2O7), distrontium oxidotitanium disilicate, has been prepared by high-temperature solid-state synthesis. The results of a Rietveld refinement study, based on high-resolution synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction data, show that the title compound crystallizes in the space group P4bm and adopts the structure of other fresnoite-type mineral samples with general formula A2 TiO(Si2O7) (A = alkaline earth metal cation). The structure consists of titanosilicate layers composed of corner-sharing SiO4 tetra-hedra (forming Si2O7 disilicate units) and TiO5 square-based pyramids. These layers extend parallel to the ab plane and are stacked along the c axis. Layers of distorted SrO6 octa-hedra lie between the titanosilicate layers. The Sr(2+) ion, the SiO4 tetra-hedron and the bridging O atom of the disilicate unit are located on mirror planes whereas the TiO5 square-based pyramid is located on a fourfold rotation axis.

Rietveld refinement of KLaTiO(4) from X-ray powder data.

Project description:Potassium lanthanum titanate(IV), KLaTiO(4), has been synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. It crystallizes isotypically with the NaLnTiO(4) (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Y and Lu) family. Five of the six atoms in the asymmetric unit (one K, one La, one Ti and two O atoms) are situated on sites with 4mm symmetry, whereas one O atom has 2mm. site symmetry. The crystal structure can be described as being composed of single layers of distorted corner-sharing TiO(6) octa-hedra extending parallel to (001). The layers are alternately separated by K(+) and La(3+) cations along [001]. The coordination number of both K(+) and La(3+) cations is nine, resulting in distorted KO(9) and LaO(9) polyhedra.

Rietveld refinement of AgCa10(PO4)7 from X-ray powder data.

Project description:Polycrystalline silver(I) deca-calcium heptakis(orthophos-phate), AgCa10(PO4)7, was obtained by solid-state reaction. It is isotopic with members of the series MCa10(PO4)7 (M = Li, Na, K and Cs), and is closely related to the structure of ?-Ca3(PO4)2. The crystal structure of the title compound is built up from a framework of [CaO9] and two [CaO8] polyhedra, one [CaO6] octa-hedron (site symmetry 3.) and three PO4 tetra-hedra (one with site symmetry 3.). The Ag(+) cation is likewise located on a threefold rotation axis and resides in the cavities of the rigid [Ca10(PO4)7](-) framework. It is surrounded by three O atoms in an almost regular triangular environment.

Project description:THE TITLE COMPOUND [SYSTEMATIC NAME: 10-methyl-benzo[g]pteridine-2,4(3H,10H)-dione 5-oxide], C(11)H(8)N(4)O(3), consists of a large rigid isoalloxazine group which is approximately planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.037?Å). In the crystal, inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into centrosymmetric dimers. Dimers related by translation along the c axis form stacks through ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.560?(5) and 3.542?(5)?Å]. Weak inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions further consolidate the crystal packing.

Crystal structure of Pigment Red 254 from X-ray powder diffraction data.

Project description:The crystal structure of Pigment Red 254 [P.R. 254, C18H10Cl2N2O2; systematic name: 3,6-bis-(4-chloro-phen-yl)-2,5-di-hydro-pyrrolo-[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-dione] was solved from laboratory X-ray powder diffraction data using the simulated annealing method followed by Rietveld refinement because the very low solubility of the pigment in all solvents impedes the growth of single crystals suitable for X-ray analysis. The mol-ecule lies across an inversion center. The dihedral angle between the benzene ring and the pyrrole ring in the unique part of the mol-ecule is 11.1 (2)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along [110] incorporating R22(8) rings.

Project description:Skin aging is one of the hallmarks of the aging process that causes physiological and morpho-logical changes. Recently, several nutritional studies were conducted to delay or suppress the aging process. This study investigated whether nutritional supplementation of the eggshell membrane (ESM) has a beneficial effect on maintaining skin health and improving the skin aging process in interleukin-10 knockout (IL-10 KO) mice. Oral supplementation of 8% powdered-ESM (pESM) upregulated the expression of growth factors, including transforming growth factor β1, platelet-derived growth factor-β and connective tissue growth factor, and suppressed skin thinning.

Crystal structures of crotonaldehyde semicarbazone and crotonaldehyde thiosemicarbazone from X-ray powder diffraction data.

Project description:Crotonaldehyde semicarbazone {systematic name: (E)-2-[(E)-but-2-en-1-yl-idene]hydrazinecarboxamide}, C5H9N3O, (I), and crotonaldehyde thio-semi-carba-zone {systematic name: (E)-2-[(E)-but-2-en-1-yldene]hydra-zinecarbo--thio-amide}, C5H9N3S, (II), show the same E conformation around the imine C=N bond. Compounds (I) and (II) were obtained by the condensation of crotonaldehyde with semicarbazide hydro-chloride and thio-semicarbazide, respectively. Each mol-ecule has an intra-molecular N-H⋯N hydrogen bond, which generates an S(5) ring. In (I), the crotonaldehyde fragment is twisted by 2.59 (5)° from the semicarbazide mean plane, while in (II) the corresponding angle (with the thio-semicarbazide mean plane) is 9.12 (5)°. The crystal packing is different in the two compounds: in (I) inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into layers parallel to the bc plane, while weak inter-molecular N-H⋯S hydrogen bonds in (II) link the mol-ecules into chains propagating in [110].
