ABSTRACT: The crystal structure of the title compound, [PtBr(C(15)H(11)N(3))][AuBr(2)]·(CH(3))(2)SO, exhibits infinite chains of {PtAuPt}(?) metallophilic inter-actions along the b axis. Two cations and one anion stack in a trimer with a unique Pt?Au distance of 3.3361?(5)?Å and Pt?Pt contacts of 3.4335?(6)?Å. The remaining [AuBr(2)](-) anion forms no close contacts.

The Pb(II) atom is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry by the four O atoms of the diphenolate ligand, one O atom from the dimethyl sulfoxide mol-ecule and one Cl atom. The dimethyl sulfoxide mol-ecule is disordered over two positions, with site occupancies of 0.576 (2) and 0.424 (2).

Project description:The title complex, [Zn(CH(5)N(3)S)(2)(C(2)H(6)OS)](C(6)H(2)N(3)O(7))(2)·C(2)H(6)OS·H(2)O, is composed of a [Zn(thio-semi-carbazide)(2)(DMSO)](2+) cation (where DMSO is dimethyl sulfoxide), and two picrate anions. In the asymmetric unit, there is also a solvent mol-ecule of DMSO and a water mol-ecule of crystallization. In the cation, the Zn(II) atom is five-coordinated in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. It coordinates to the O atom of a DMSO mol-ecule and to the S and one N atom of two thio-semicarbazide mol-ecules, which behave as bidentate ligands coordinating in a trans arrangement. In the crystal, a number of N-H⋯O, O-H⋯O and N-H⋯S hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into two-dimensional networks. These networks are further linked via weak C-H⋯O inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional arrangement. Positional disorder in one methyl group of the coordinated DMSO molecule and in the two picrate anions was observed.

Interaction of phenylthiolato-(2,2',2"-terpyridine)platinum(II) cation with DNA.

Project description:The interaction between a novel aromatic thiolato derivative from the family of DNA-intercalating platinum complexes, phenylthiolato-(2,2',2"-terpyridine)platinum(II)-[PhS(ter py)Pt+], and nucleic acids was studied by using viscosity, equilibrium-dialysis and kinetic measurements. Viscosity measurements with sonicated DNA provide direct evidence for intercalation, and show that at binding ratios below 0.2 molecules per base-pair PhS(terpy)Pt+ causes an increase in contour length of 0.2 nm per bound molecule. However, helix extension diminishes at greater extents of binding, indicating the existence of additional, non-intercalated, externally bound forms of the ligand. The ability of PhS(terpy)Pt+ to aggregate in neutral aqueous buffers at a range of ionic strengths and temperatures was assessed by using optical-absorption methods. Scatchard plots for binding to calf thymus DNA at ionic strength 0.01 (corrected for dimerization) are curvilinear, concave upward, providing further evidence for two modes of binding. The association constant decreases at higher ionic strengths, in accord with the expectations of polyelectrolyte theory, although the number of cations released per bound unipositive ligand molecule is substantially greater than 1. Stopped-flow kinetic measurements confirm the complexity of the binding reaction by revealing multiple bound forms of the ligand whose kinetic processes are both fast and closely coupled. Thermal denaturation of DNA radically alters the shapes of binding isotherms and either has little effect on, or enhances, the affinity of potential binding sites, depending on experimental conditions. Scatchard plots for binding to natural DNA species with differing nucleotide composition show that the ligand has a requirement for a single G X C base-pair at the highest-affinity intercalation sites.

The Cd(II) ion is coordinated in a disorted square-pyramidal CdBr(2)N(2)S environment with one of the Br atoms in the apical site. In the crystal structure, the benzimidazole ring systems are involved in weak inter-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.606?(2) and 3.753?(2)?Å]. Further stabilization is provided by weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds. The methyl H atoms of the dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecule are disordered about a mirror plane.

Project description:In the title compound, [PtCl(C(27)H(35)N(3))]BF(4), the Pt(II) atom is in a pseudo-square-planar coordination, which is typical of Pt-terpyridine complexes. The Pt-Cl bond distance is 2.2998?(7)?Å. The Pt-N distance of the N atom on the central pyridine is 1.931?(2)?Å, while the peripheral N atoms have Pt-N distances of 2.018?(2) and 2.022?(2)?Å. The cations pack as dimers in a head-to-tail orientation with an inter-molecular Pt?Pt distance of 3.5214?(2)?Å and Pt?N distances of 3.527?(2), 3.873?(2) and 4.532?(2)?Å. In the crystal, cations and anions are linked by weak C-H?F hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.
