Di-?-cyanido-1:2?C:N,2:3?N:C-hexa-cyanido-1?C,3?C-tetra-kis(1,10-phenanthroline)-1?N,N';2?N,N';3?N,N'-1,3-dicobalt(III)-2-iron(II) tetra-hydrate.

ABSTRACT: The hydro-thermal reaction of CoCl(2)·6H(2)O, 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and K(3)[Fe(CN)(6)] in deionized water yielded the title cyanide-bridged trinuclear cluster, [Co(2)Fe(CN)(8)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(4)]·4H(2)O or [{Co(III)(phen)(CN)(4)}(2){Fe(II)(phen)(2)}]·4H(2)O, which contains two Co(III) centers and one Fe(II) center linked by cyanide bridges. The combination of coordinative bonds, O-H?N and O-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.630?(2)?Å] results in the stabilization of a supra-molecular structure. All uncoordinated water molecules are disordered. Thermogravimetric analysis reveals that the title complex loses the four crystal water mol-ecules at about 333?K, then the anhydrous phase loses no further mass up to about 573?K, above which decomposition occurs.

Project description:The title complex, [Ni(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)][Ni(CN)(4)]·C(4)H(8)O·H(2)O, consists of a cationic [Ni(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) unit, an anionic [Ni(CN)(4)](2-) unit, one uncoordinated water and one tetra-hydro-furan mol-ecule. In the cationic unit, the Ni(2+) atom is coordinated by four N atoms and two O atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and two water mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. In the anionic unit, the Ni(2+) atom is in a square-planar coordination by four C atoms from four monodentate terminal cyanide ligands. O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link neighboring cationic and anionic units, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular network. The inter-stitial tetra-hydro-furan mol-ecule is independently disordered over two sites in a 1:1 ratio.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Cu(2)Tb(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(3)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(4)]NO(3)·4H(2)O, consists of one-half of the C(2)-symmetric trinuclear coordination cation, one-half of the C(2)-symmetric nitrate anion and two water mol-ecules. In the coordination cation, the Cu(II) atom is coordinated by four N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and two O atoms from a bridging-chelating carboxyl-ate group of the pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate anion, completing a distorted N(4)O(2) octa-hedral coordination environment. The Tb(III) atom, located on a twofold rotation axis, is nine-coordinated by three tridentate pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate anions forming an N(3)O(6) donor set. The intra-molecular Cu?Tb distance of 5.0592?(11)?Å indicates weak inter-actions between the Cu(II) and Tb(III) atoms. Project description:The title compouand {[Zn(C(4)H(4)O(6))(C(12)H(8)N(2))]·6H(2)O}(n), has a linear chain structure parallel to [100] with Zn(C(4)H(4)O(6))(C(12)H(8)N(2)) repeat units; the asymmetric unit consists of one Zn(2+) cation, one l-tartrate dianion, one 1,10-phenanthroline and six free water mol-ecules. The Zn atom is in a distorted octa-hedral ZnN(2)O(4) coordination environment. The crystal structure is stabilized by O-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? stacking of the phenanthroline units [centroid-centroid distances in the range 3.552?(2)-3.625?(2)Å] occurs between the chains. The title compound is isotypic with the Cu and Mn analogues.

Project description:The title compound, [Cd(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]SO(4)·6H(2)O, was obtained unexpectedly during an attempt to synthesize a cadmium complex with bidentate bridging sulfate ligands via hydro-thermal synthesis. The Cd(II) metal ion is six-coordinated by two chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and two water mol-ecules, resulting in a distorted octa-hedral geometry for the metal ion. The two chelating N(2)C(2) groups are almost perpendicular to each other [dihedral angle = 86.75?(2)°]. In the crystal, the [Cd(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) complex cations join with the sulfate anions through two O(water)-H?O(sulfate) hydrogen bonds. These ion pairs are further inter-linked into a two-dimensional supermolecular structure via additional O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]SO(4)·6H(2)O, the complex cations assemble into positively charged sheets parallel to (010) via inter-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions with a mean interplanar distance of 3.410?(6) along [100] and 3.465?(5)?Å along [001]. The sulfate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules are inter-connected between these layers by hydrogen bonds, forming negatively charged layers which are linked to the positive layers through O-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional architecture. Both the positive and negative sheets are stacked along [010] in an ?ABAB? sequence, the A layers being shifted by 1/2a along [100] with respect to the B layers. One of the uncoordinated water molecules is equally disordered over two positions.

Project description:In the title complex, [Ni(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)](NO(3))(2)·4H(2)O, the Ni(II) ion is octa-hedrally coordinated by three bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline ligands, each forming a five-membered chelate ring. In the crystal, O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds are present between the complex cations, nitrate anions and water mol-ecules. O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the uncoord-inated water mol-ecules lead to the formation of a four-membered ring water cluster, with a planar configuration. There were an additional five grossly disordered water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, which were removed by the subroutine SQUEEZE; these were were excluded in the calculation of the molecular weight, etc. ?-? stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings are also observed [centroid-centroid distances = 3.697?(2), 3.728?(2) and 3.761?(2)?Å].
